How many different games text boxes did you have and how many of those did you have to make? I thought they were a really fun touch!

Anonymous

Hi! Last Video you mentioned that you watched the first season of The Owl House and needed to get caught up! Have you watched season 2a yet and if so, what are your thoughts?

Anonymous

I love that you actually talked about Lost Kingdoms 2. The music in your other vids activated me like a sleeper agent because I always felt like the only person who played it since it’s only ever mentioned as a footnote in a list of pre-Dark Souls FromSoft games. How did you come across it in the first place?

Anonymous

Awesome video, loved it💜What was the song at 1:18:55?!😃

Anonymous

Oh, I'm dumb lol thank you!🙈

Anonymous

As someone who grew up on free rpg maker games I haven’t played a lot of the games you talked about but they sound so nice♡. Do you have any recommendations out of the games you talked about that are easily accessible? Like steam or suspicious fan sub downloads. ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡ you worked hard on this video and I loved it!

Anonymous

(Sorry to ask another question) but will you be making more shorter videos again or are you planning on keeping them longer like this one? I like both, I was just wondering (^-^)/

Anonymous

Hi, love your videos! Dumb question, but I always wonder where that "AWWWW" noise you use is from, it gets me every time. (You used it in your Sonic Adventure video where you talked about the Icicle Inn in Final Fantasy, I was just wondering) Also can you recommend any emulators?

Anonymous

This video was so perfectly suited to my exact niche interests, I'm so incredibly into JRPGs and this is a rare case where I've seen a video that told me about numerous games I've never heard of before. My question was going to be "have you played/heard of [game not mentioned in the video]" but you covered everything I could possibly think of! So I guess just, great work, this is my favorite video of yours yet!

Anonymous

Hi! Loved the new video sm!! I’ll probably end up rewatching it a ton. (Thank you for the hard work!) Do you have any tips for someone trying to get into emulating / finding resources for more obscure titles? Obv not looking for name drops, but if there are specific places for resources that would be awesome!

Thank you for acknowledging the greatness of “The Dog Island” by the innovators at Yuke. I swear my life by this oddly dark dog game. My sister is gonna see this so - I won’t forgive you for what you did. I had very nearly completed that game in that week long, flu fueled, half conscious binge. You dropped our Wii, both annihilating my save data as well as all my ‘Mons trapped in the Poke Ranch. I may love and hold you as my closest friend, but I will never forget, and I will forever hold this against you for the remainder of our lives. Also, Hi Hazel! What was your favorite thing about The Dog Island’s fucked lil’ story about grief, obligation, and the weight of society's expectations? :D also-also, Nicky's writing is hella sharp! Amazing vid as always! Thx

Anonymous

Hey Hazel! Apologies if this question has been asked before, but are there any tips you’d give to someone intending to make their own (amateur) video essays? I imagine the process differs vastly from creator to creator, but any tips from experience?

Anonymous

I noticed how your video tends to be two hours long - which is not a bad thing. Have you ever thought of submitting feature-length video essay to film festivals?

Anonymous

Seeing as you’re a professional ™ who sits at a desk a lot to do her work, do you have any advice to do desk work in a productive and healthy way? Whether it’s related to health or keeping your focus on the task, I’d love to hear how you personally go through the process.

Anonymous

Oh! And is there a reason you use text-to-speech or double your voice for some words/sentences?

Marcy Coral

great video! whats your homemade mac n cheese recipe?

profHoyden

Okay, I have to ask, why the tits mousepad over one that just has a continuous raised area for your wrist to rest on? For the memes, or does the small valley that means it's not all a continuous raised area actually help your wrist more? I probably need to take some anti-RSI steps also and I'm debating which type of mousepad to get.

Collin Json

In my experience, using a standard ergonomic keyboard is a little easier to adjust to than a ortholinear, but good luck if you try it! I can't get used to mine. For a question: were there any games you were eager to play but couldn't find an English patch for?

Anonymous

So, what level are you on? (Please forgive me.)

leafbladie

Would you be willing to give more in depth thoughts or feels on the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series?

blogbourri

Are there any topics you'd like to make essays about that feel too "off-brand" at the moment to tackle at this point in your channels' growth arc? Also Pop Spirit is amazing and has lit a fire under me to start an actual, non-hypothetical music and arts collective with some of my friends, so cheers and thanks for the inspo! Loved that Nicky appeared in your latest video too.

Anonymous

I cheered so loud when you talked about magical vacation, the magical vacation fan discord was really happy to see this game get more recognition. Did you ever play that super scungy multiplayer mode in Magical Starsign? There is almost no documentation about it online besides the wiki stuff that like 2 people are doing. More justice for preserving multiplayer modes in handheld games that sold poorly

Anonymous

You mentioned it briefly in your video but I'm curious what your thoughts are on the Lodoss War franchise.

leafbladie

Oh, one other question, what was your team in Moemon?

Anonymous

How do you manage storage with such a huge project?? like with all the different wav files and footage and then the actual project in editing software i think my laptop would just break down into tears

Shoxy- The-pinecone

I noticed you used some persona 3 music/clips, have you played it?, if so who were your favourite characters?

Anonymous

I legit gasped with joy when I heard that Digimon World 2003 music around 30 minutes in. That game was def the cozy one I used to play ALL DAY LONG. The series as a whole just became some really nostalgic comfort food for me as I grew older. Have you ever watched any of the anime series or got into those games?

Anonymous

Seeing Wonder Boy in Monster World led me to trying it on an emulator and realizing it's literally MapleStory rpg before the MapleStory mmo. I don't have a question I just wanted to thank you for blowing my mind.

Anonymous

Have you played Legend of Mana HD, and would you use a walkthrough to 100% it?

Siegfried Pinzer

first thing, how dare you to violently remind of the hugo games which might had affected my taste in women more than I realized since the villain is a sexy evil witch :/ for a question: are there any cozy western rpgs you know of? I can't think of any western rpg that can be described as cozy in general.

Anonymous

I just started Pod Spirit, which is delightful and introducing me to a lot of tunes. I also just finished the Soul Eater manga, and you mentioned in an early episode that you had a video on Soul Eater coming out. Did that get taken down, and if so, is there any way see it? Some Hazel takes on that series would go down real smooth as I process the franchise myself.

Anonymous

Hi hazel, thanks so much for this cosy vid and for giving me a list of games to check out and make my ADHD brain go brrrrrrrrr - I was wondering if you'd ever checked out the Rune Factory series? They walk this line for me between comfy social simulator and a dense stack of gameplay mechanics and leveling systems that totally ensnare me - a social stimulator if you will. It's a Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons spinoff series and I really feel like a lot of the games published by Marvelous and XSeed occupy this comfy middle ground for me - Avalon Code and Innocent Life, to name a couple more :)

Anonymous

Not much of a question but I also do that "physically winces in pain/mouths 'WHAT THE FUCK'" thing when I hear a new piece of music that really excites me, so that moment painted a real vivid picture of how much Grandia affected you and I love that

Anonymous

Hey, hazel. Wanted to say that Shining Force was me and my brother's favorite game to play on our mom's Sega. Great memories brought up by you bringing that up. Wanted to ask though if you ever played Shining Force 2. My brother swears that it's better than the first.

Anonymous

My brain is too tired to think of any questions, I just wanted to say thank you for all the amazing content you put out!

Anonymous

What is your favourite Cave Story OST track? Also favourite YMO track? x

Anonymous

im sum dumb. how do I download or buy moemon? I don't have to be cool or smart, i just have to collect all the cuties.

Anonymous

Amazing stuff as always. We have very different tastes in media so I think I recognised at most four games that were mentioned in any capacity here... All I'll say is that A Short Hike is the coziest game I've played by an absolute landslide, and the island in it is *supremely* hang-out-able.

Anonymous

Thanks for the lovely video! (Especially rad to see my beloved "Sword Craft Story"-s get some love) I apologize if this is a question you've gotten before / answered a lot, but I'm super curious about the enigmatic boat clip you play in lieu of showing extra spicy content during your videos. Is this an in-joke thing? A reference to an iconic film I've somehow missed? Even without understanding it, it still cracks me up every time it pops up.

Hi folks, was happy to see a passing mention of Threads of Fate (aka Dewprism) as I rarely see it mentioned. I found a used copy at a closing block buster, had a chance to try both paths, and the story was suitably bonkers for a jrpg. What I wanted to ask about has to do with the fact the game has 2 fully playable overlapping but distinct story lines ( stoic boy thing and bratty tsundere with little dere,) and I wondered if you or ellisa had any favorite games with choices like this? Also do you all ever get hit with choice paralysis in making choices like this, or other branching choices in a game. Finally , as a fun fact, the game never got a sequel despite a fair amount of popularity, and there are overlapping rumors that Ken Akamatsu of Love Hina fame was working on a manga adaptation for the story, or made character design art for a canceled squeal, and he used the art as inspiration for Negima. As always, be well.

Anonymous

Hazel, can I pay you to watch an anime? Like you don't even have to review it. I just want you to see nice things.

Anonymous

Great video as always, only question can you share this so called perfect mac and cheese recipe or is that forbidden knowledge?

Anonymous

Another awesome vid. Two questions: first, what are some of your favourite live action Japanese movies? Second, have you seen any of the recent kabuki/stage musical anime adaptations?

Elias Rosner

When you're writing the scripts to your videos, how do you approach tangents? I just noticed in this one, more than others, how effortlessly we can meander from the game you're talking about for 5, 10, 15 minutes and then come back and slot right into where we were, sometimes with more context but often with simply different context and information. Like, even the asides have arcs and points adjacent to but different from the main vid. It's great shit and I wanted to know what the writing process of those are like. Pure fascination with a topic that grabbed you as you wrote? Wanting to provide fuller pictures? Restructuring to make a point flow better? Etc.

Anonymous

What's are your favorite noise albums or favorite heavy albums in general?

Anonymous

Hi hazel, amazing video, I've played a fuckton of jrpgs and I still discovered some new stuff from it, I appreciate how deep you dig in your research! I'm a new patron so apologies if you've answered this before, but have you given Mother 3 a shot? I realize it's basically the jock jam of not officially localized quirkt up jrpgs, but it was developed by brownie brown and retains a lot of aesthetic elements of magical vacation; while it has a somewhat dark story, the environments are cozy as fuck and the soundtrack is one of my favorites. Also, give Grandia II a shot, its one of the best games on the dreamcast, and uhhhhh Skies of Arcadia is pretty goated too. k thx love u bye

Anonymous

What did the 'anime' designation rule out - do you have any favorite cozy non-anime RPGs?

Anonymous

How does it feel to know that I, and presumably I alone, was genuinely hyped to hear you talk about Sonic Chronicles? I think it's fascinating that Sonic managed to end up in a what felt like a bogstandard licensed game. Its sheer soullessness makes it about the opposite of cozy to me personally, and I felt both validated and extremely trolled when you pulled the rug out.

Anonymous

what would your ideal date with your fav Tenchi Muyo girl be? (for me it'd be taking Mihoshi to an amusement park)

Anonymous

This isn't a question but I just had to share my adoration for the matching Terriermon and Lopmon plushies in the background of your set up. My partner and I have one each, so I was so thrilled to see them show up in the wild.

Codfish Cartographer

What are some of your favorite "bad" anime / games? Whether you like them to laugh at them (such as when watching something like The Room) or because you genuinely enjoy them despite public opinion disagreeing with you.

Anonymous

Dang, I could've sworn I left a comment here, but I guess I deleted it by accident or forgot to post it? I wrote a whole ass love letter to your videos and music cause this is my first time leaving a comment, but oh well. If you deleted my comment for whatever reason, then I'm really sorry if I offended you in any way. This time around I'll skip the spiel and just ask my question. Obvious thing to ask, but have you ever played Mother 3 to completion? If so, what'd you think? I couldn't stop thinking about it amidst all the GBA and Brownie Brown talk and your use of its version of Gymnopédie in the video (the Panty and Stocking song you used was great as well). Mother 3 is a work of art and the small-town vibes are not only immaculate but a major part of the story, so if you haven't played it yet, you should cause it seems right up your alley! Also, who's your favorite Peanuts character?? I was named after Linus but my favorites are Peppermint Patty and Marcie, with Sally as a close third. PP and M are equally chaotic but in completely opposite ways which makes them a great pair, and Sally is just so infectiously narrow-minded and I love her for it. Thanks for the great videos as always!!

Anonymous

Hi hazel, the video was fantastic, yet another banger!! One thing I was curious about was the realm of smartphone RPGs. Have you ever found an RPG for the phone that you really enjoyed? If not, what items from your invisible handheld RPG checklist do you think these games are missing?

Anonymous

What is a loop????

Anonymous

Hello, I hope this message finds you less hungry than last time. Feel free to skip to the last paragraph for the real question if you are running short on time. The rest is me complimenting your video and goofing around. Great video as always! I really enjoy winding down with one of your videos after a long day. I have never really been into Anime RPGs so I don't have much experience with the topic, but your video has definitely made me want to try some of them out ( summon knight, SMT5, Gurumin, Grandia). One thing I do have some experience with is the fire whip guy at 32:41. Seter of 31 Guinness world records and Renaissance Faire frequenter Adam Crack. What do you think about Adam Crack’s contribution to the art of whip performance, AKA the whip game? Sorry about that, I get excited when Adam Crack makes an appearance. Real question, how do you feel about the recent announcement of the Baja Blast hard seltzer?

hiya Hazel! awesome video, as per usual; it's long enough that i can't rewatch it (...lol) but i DO remember the Yuke's mention! besides their wrestling games, they also made a really good game based on D1 Grand Prix, which is an autosport - and leads into my question! there's another small Japanese studio from the same era that all but evaporated with the "Japanese games suck" push in the late 2000s called Genki! they're mostly known for their racing games (which i love,) but they also made a JRPG localized as Jade Cocoon which had it's art and character design done by Katsuya Kondo! have you any experience with it? (PS: the reason Yuke's made the D1GP game is because the creator of Yuke's, Yukinori Taniguchi, sponsored Team Orange, one of the participants; he sponsored them because Yuke's logo is orange! he also might be related to one of the drivers, Nobuteru Taniguchi, but i'm not sure. nevertheless, keep doing your best, Hazel!)

Anonymous

This vid hit real hard and this question isn’t related to the video but what’s your letterboxd username? I’d love to be able to read your reviews if you do leave them or see what’s on your watchlist! I love your tastes in media!!!

Anonymous

Hey Hazel, loved the video (as I do with all of your videos) I was wondering what is your favorite rpg that is on the switch? Or any other rpgs that you would recommend on the switch? Also have you heard of DYA Games? They are an indie game studio that makes snes inspired games with beautiful sprite art. They have a horror game called Evil Tonight that’s pretty Hazel core. Anyways, thanks in advance for reading :).

Anonymous

wow a gamer AND you know about esteban child of the sun... anyway my question is, have you ever tried playing okage? it's one of those games where i love the character designs and the vibe but i couldn't get far because playing it is just absolutely excruciating... but i was thinking you might be better-suited to appreciate the jank of it.

Anonymous

Hi Hazel, I loved the video! Honestly, it got me through my thesis collapsing in slow mo right before my eyes. Anyway, the question I had was that when I think about 'cozy' aesthetics as applied to media, my mind tends to go towards things that feel very chill, or low stakes, but a lot of my personal comfort games are pretty intense in gameplay or story! I think your video kinda expresses how that feeling of coziness is more something that happens on the player's end, and I guess the question I'm trying to ask is whether you think that vibe is something that can be deliberately cultivated by a creator (or creators), or if it's more something that just happens sometimes?

Anonymous

While not a JRPG per say, Have you tried Steambot Chronicles? It was the first game I thought of seeing the video thumbnail and perfectly matches the vibe conveyed in your video.

Anonymous

Hi Hazel. Any thoughts on Omori ? I haven't tried it yet but the pastel colors and mixed art style look just beautiful. Also, completely unrelated, since you mentioned your love of cooking in the last episode of Podspirit. What is your favourite anime about cooking and what is your "Hazel dish", that you make if you wanna impress somebody with your super duper cooking skills ?

Anonymous

This is my question from last video that didnt post, but have you heard of the music artist SASAMI? I think a few days before you posted your video she posted a picture of tenchi sasami, anyways music sasami OWNS and her self titled is in my top 5 albums of all time. I would reccomend not the time if you want to listen to her :)))) anyways thanks for making some of my favorite art of all time peace !!!!

bacchusdiem

Hi Hazel!! What a wonderful video as usual! I want to know: what would an ideal super cozy day look like for you and what kinds of things do you do to make it happen in real life? Is coziness something that can only be evoked externally or can it come from within? Can’t wait for the Mac and Cheese ASMR!

Anonymous

Hello! Thank you for the hard work and brilliant content - the wait has been worth it. During the video (and I'm sorry if this is answered elsewhere - I am Not Smart) are the games and platforms they're upon listed anywhere? I can pause/scribble/unpause with the best of them, but if the list already exists, maybe it can be shared? -Bows- Thank you for hearing my request!

Anonymous

Hey hazel, this isn't really a question but I'm gonna go ahead and sneak this post in here as a little pep talk for scrolling through all these questions and so I can say thanks for all you do! Your videos are enjoyable and inspiring to me and many others, so keep up the good work!

Anonymous

Hey did you know the Sega Saturn version of Grandia is better

Anonymous

Your videos are really wonderful. Hearing you mention the Gamecenter CX game made me curious. Have you watched much of Gamecenter CX (or really anything Arino related)? Admittedly I usually just skip to the sections where Arino travels around to small game stores/cafes & etc to goof around.

Kai Vee

Would love to know how much experience you have with the Tales series? I know those are probably too sprawling/famous for this video but it had me wondering if you knew any!

Anonymous

do you have any trailers or promotional material for any media that hold a special place in your memory? any trailers that you're really fond of but have never directly experienced the media they were connected to?

Anonymous

Thanks for the really enjoyable video! It's nice to remember and replay games that aren't really remembered for being widely praised or grand in premise but are just really fun and cozy. One of the games that has most stuck in my mind over the years was Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocketslime, a niche spinoff of the Dragon Quest series where you play as a slime who has to use your elasticity and ability to carry up to 3 things on your head to rescue your fellow villagers from the evil Plob (platypus mob). During your adventure you obtain a legendary giant tank to engage in fun tank battles, duel your Shadow the Hedgehog-inspired slime antihero rival, and watch as your village is slowly rebuilt and becomes bustling once again as you rescue villages and even befriend and coexist with some members of the Plob. Do these types of cozy games tend to stick more in your mind than other types of games? If so, why do you think that is?

MetalCheeseEase

I bought the tartarus gamer bullshit. I think it needs to be resting on a chair's armrest for all the keys to be reachable. Gaming chair review when?

Anonymous

No question this time, just wanted to thank you for the great content you've put out!

Anonymous

I saw you put footage from Jazz Jackrabbit 2: Holiday Hare 98 and got very excited.

Anonymous

How do you manage to do so much research for little niche subjects? You’re always very well spoken and it’s really admirable how you’re able to articulate your thoughts so clearly, also more content with your wife please :D the viewer questions you do with her are always so fun

Anonymous

after seeing you talk about the whole "diorama world" thing with grandia and trails in the sky, i wonder: what do you think about the 2d-hd thing square enix is doing with their recent remakes? also big fan love your vids !!

Anonymous

WOAH!!! 85 REPLAYS! Good luck Hazel! I hope you're good by the end of this
