After watching the show so far, my reaction to it is pretty much the same as my reaction to the trailers. Visually stunning, narratively underwhelming. This show has a MASSIVE budget. Clearly they put every dollar of it on screen, I just wish they'd saved some for the writers' room.

Why else do you think the promotion for this show largely revolved around 'Diversity and inclusion!' and 'We're bringing Tolkien to a modern audience!' (even though the *timelessness* of Tolkien's universe was always its main appeal... and has also had numerous non-white fans over the years as a result)? 🙄 Maybe because they knew they had nothing on the substance front? And/or because they knew Amazon has a shit-ton invested in this series and it failing would be disastrous for them? ('We pray to thee, almighty capitalism...' 🤮) I'm still trying to figure out when it apparently became impossible for someone to relate to a fictional character unless they were the same race/ethnicity/gender/sexual orientation/religion/etc. as you. Is this just an indication of how narcissistic our society has become? So much for MLK's preaching about 'content of character,' huh? 🤷‍♂

We watched these without reactions last week and Ep 3 last night. It's great that we have new LOTR content, and that it looks spectacular. The problem is the boredom and not falling asleep for us. Not a hater and we will watch every season and every episode, but they have to pick up the pacing.
