Here's the full length reaction to the Theatrical Release of The Patriot! This movie surprised me! I was expecting the movie to be very heavy the whole time (don't get me wrong, it DEFINITELY has so many heartbreaking moments), but I was surprised with the amount of lighthearted and tender moments as well! Enjoy!

So, of all the Roland Emmerich movies out there, this is probably my favorite one, due in no small part to its rather gritty portrayal of war (that first action sequence where Benjamin and his two young sons kill the British officers to free his other son is both brutal and fantastic), and Mel Gibson's empassioned performance--in spite of his troubling, shall we say, existence in the real world. I have a hard time stomaching some of the whitewashing bull@#!%, as well A pre-revolutionary colonist and plantation owner from South Carolina who freed all of his slaves? Okay. Sure. And the rather happy ending where we all go to build a house feels a little syrupy to me. But, I guess that's Hollywood for you. The bit about Benjamin and Fort Wilderness is a nice touch, on the other hand, really showcasing the horrors of war. And I give the movie props for taking some actual risks by, eh...offing some of the more likable characters in a very unlikable manner. All in all, not a bad one, and even quite watchable. Anyway...that's my ramble.

Good movie. 👍 Although on a tangent after Addie's intro all I could think of was that now I kind of wish there was a Mel Brook's version. 😄

Even though Roland Emmerich is known for his large-scale popcorn movies like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow, I'm particularly fond of The Patriot. I was surprised when I double-checked the runtime, because it definitely doesn't feel like 2h45m.
