Seriously, though, this film, despite the utter inanity of the actual plot, has a weird parallel track with actual reality. Honeybees are a huge business, because pollination of crops relies on them. They get trucked all over the US to pollinate fruit and vegetable fields. Also, because the European honeybee was never meant to be in America in the first place they're very vulnerable to diseases and blights, so there are active programs to develop new strains, and convince our homegrown bees to want to pollinate our bigger cash crops.

I remember the paranoia back in the '70's, after successful mating of African bees, who were more aggressive, with honey bees, and the result being the "killer bees", who were going to invade the U.S. at any moment. Which never happened.
