Summary: Several people disappear from and at the sea. Their bodies are found gnawed to the skeleton, even the marrow is missing. The scientists have no idea which animal could do such things. Dr. Turner begins to suspect that the company which builds a tunnel beneath the bay might have poisoned the environment and caused an octopus to mutate to giant dimensions. Just at the same time a great sailing regatta with many children is started - among them Turner's nephew Tommy.  This video contains affiliate links. Mako: The Jaws of Death is technically not a rip-off so much as poorly timed if you believe the IMDB trivia, but if you think of the main character as if Matt Hooper had gone murderously insane over shark hunters the claim gets shaky. Blood Beach (or is it a proto-Tremors?) is one thats going to end up reviewed on here eventually. Its a dumb movie but there’s one gratuitous 1/2 second shot of the monster eating a lady that I found weirdly chilling.

Nothing against a fortune telling octopus: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_the_Octopus

So the teenagers in boats in peril was not started by Jaws 2. My favorite nature going wild movie is Prophecy, the 1979 one not the one with Christopher Walken as the Archangel Gabriel. Katahdin (or Poohzilla as I affectionately call her) is a personal favorite.

This film might have been improved if someone had made the same spoonerism of the title as The Cat in 'Red Dwarf: Back to Reality' 'Grizzly' is a great 'Jaws' rip off, it's a giant bear that is able to sneak up on people by silently walking through dense woodland. That said some scenes do seem to predict Speilburg's later 'Jurassic Park'.

I saw Grizzly in the cinema at an age I shouldn't have been allowed in to see it. It gave me nightmares. Saw it recently - laughed way too much. Ninja bear!

'Tentacles' always looked to me like one of those movies where none of the cast were available for more than a day, let alone just Henry Fonda, so you've just got all these bits and pieces stuck almost randomly together. If you want another dose of John Huston's incredible acting career you should try 'The Visitor' which is a truly bonkers - and hilarious - sort of Close Encounters rip-off. I think Huston plays God in it but I could be wrong. It is a tad confusing. Shelley Winters and Glenn Ford also star. And Sam Peckinpah!

Uh, how did this small town pay for shipping two orca assassins in to kill the octopus? These ripoffs really illustrate the difference between filmmakers--people who grasp how to tell a story in this medium and get that the story is what is exciting--and financiers, who go well, people wanna see a giant [FILL IN CREATURE] so lots of that. The rest of this stuff is boring, just shoot some random people saying random things over the course of two days and we'll edit it into the [GIANT CREATURE] attacks.

David Nevarrez

So glad I never saw this one. I remember when it came out, and just thinking I would not even sneak into such a ridiculous sounding movie.

This must have looked so much better on paper. There are good elements in there, but they are completely ruined in the execution. Take the bit where everyone is enjoying themselves and a comedian is telling jokes, while at the same time the regatta is being attacked and the Shelley Winters character is the only one to realise something is horribly wrong. That might have been a poignant scene, but it is handled so ineptly.
