I can't get over how much the "arty" stuff plays like a parody of arty student films, only in complete seriousness.

I wonder if they were also trying, and failing, to make it like a Giallo film. With the more arty stuff and the weird dream sequences. The soundtrack seems to have that influence. Although it also could just be a cheap off the shelf synth one

The Python reference is not too far fetched. There is a a Flying Circus sketch about a fictitious Frederico Fellini film, represendet by the clip of a bizarre game of cricket. It's a double spoof, completely over the top and void of any logic. But it would fit seamlessly into THE JAR at any given point.

Unless someone else also suggested it, I guess it is my fault for subjecting you to such a rotten film. I really thought it was going to be too awful and too boring for a good review, but you did what you did best and knocked it out of the park.
