Summary: In this exclusive extended version never seen before on TV, Kermode traces the extraordinary history of The Exorcist, the novel by William Peter Blatty that William Friedkin turned into a popular and controversial film. He examines the aura of mystery that still surrounds the film, the making of which claimed several lives. Alongside extracts and outtakes from the movie, there are interviews with Blatty, Friedkin, and actors Ellen Burstyn, Max von Sydow, Linda Blair and James Ferman, director of the British Board of Film Classification in 1998.

I can't run the video. I'm getting "this video is private". I'm logged in and can see earlier posts, but not this one. I'm technically challenged & don't know what to try next!

Likewise, same message, same situation.

Not really horror related but I did enjoy 'The Movies that Made Us' episode on 'Dirty Dancing', a film I've seen once in 1987 and really couldn't care that much about. Somehow the story of getting it made, the fact that Swayze basically crippled himself to finish it (If you wonder why he limps through 'Steel Dawn') and that a Hollywood veteran who Vestron asked to view the film advised them to burn it for the insurance money. Still wouldn't watch the actual movie however.

Fear of God is what introduced me (as an American) to Mark Kermode. I instantly became a fan. The Kermode and Mayo radio show is one of my favorite things.

Funny to see bbfc boss James Ferman fretting about the number of kids with vhs players in their rooms in the documentary. If only he knew 10 years later everyone would have access to free hardcore porn, murder videos, etc etc etc.

Stephen Crane

After watching the Redux (and that spider walk scene) I slept with the lights on for a week.

It's not a documentary, but the novel A Head Full of Ghosts touches a LOT on what the one guy there was saying; that the film was so good that it permanently influenced how people think of possession and exorcism.

In re documentaries on subjects that did not initially interest me, I very much enjoyed "Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four", which I watched after seeing your Streaming review.

I enjoyed the film, once, but wouldn't watch again, except for the dance sequences. I have a hard time with a character referred to as "Baby"
