Blank video I think?

Stephen Crane

I think if people want to watch it, they shouldn't watch the original first.

I downloaded and watched the 1940 version with my wife, last night. There really is no comparison between this and Hitchcock's elegant masterpiece. If you're going to watch this version, then see the original Hitchcock version afterwards. But, better still, just see the 1940 version and leave it at that.

I've got the new book. I've started the Kindle version and am waiting for the paperback - I just had to have that lovely cover!

Okay, onto Rebecca; I have to say, while this certainly looks gorgeous and KST seems a superlative Mrs. Danvers, I have a couple problems right out of the gate. One, the two leads are simply too close in age; Max is basically supposed to be a father-esque figure to the nameless heroine, and here there's no baroque feeling, no barrier of age and experience, that seems to be part of her original romantic impulse and later blocks her from growing towards him. Two, Lily James, while a great actress, simply doesn't project the overwhelming, crippling self-consciousness that is the main character's main--hell, overpowering--trait. It's nearly impossible to put that level of cringe and frozenness onscreen without making the audience want to push her in a mud puddle out of sheer frustration but without it the entire story loses power. She's the vacuum of lack and shyness that Rebecca's ghost fills. The closest I felt it in the trailer is when she's wearing those dorky pajamas.

Also, Robin: the USA link only takes me to the original three books and I can't use the UK link; post the USA Amazon one? I MUST HAVE THIS BOOK.

Sorry about that. It takes about a week for Amazon to link the new book to the series page, which is very frustrating. https://www.amazon.com/Immortal-Dracula-Universal-Library-Book-ebook/dp/B08LFMSYZK/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=the+immortal+dracula&qid=1603542053&sr=8-2
