I look forward to watching the documentary. Not going to pay $25 for a Blu-Ray of the actual film though. Personally, I think that any film that has to feature a character known as "Mr Fantastic" with a straight face is doomed from the get-go.

Why has the FF been so hard to film? The script writers and the studios want "Action! Explosions in a world gone Mad! With 1,000 Elephants!" (Thank you Terry). But, if you really look at the FF, that's an accidental by product. The Avengers are action oriented, they're there to save the earth so bring on the bangs and whooshes. The FF are a family to whom stuff happens, usually because Reed goofed up again. So when they have action, it's a different orientation. They'll try and talk it out, minimal force. That's where Hollywood doesn't get it. All three FF films (ignore Corman's) have twisted the FF's back story into something unrecognizable and then gone straight to the bang smash boom. The things they did to Dr.Doom's character in all 3 films were just wrong. And don't get me started on Galactus...

I am so glad you reviewed this documentary. I had a lot of the same thoughts as you when I first watched it and learned a lot about Hollywood underhandedness.

I second the recommendation of this doc. It's really interesting. Plus, I still defend the Corman film as being wildly entertaining, if not conventionally good.

Thanks for reviewing this! I have always felt that Corman's film was actually a little better than its reputation. It's a Corman film, so it was never going to be perfect, but it had some good ideas. The Thing suit was fantastic; very close to the Kirby original design for the Thing. Of course, it was instantly clear THAT's where all the money went, but you could tell everyone was in there punching. Even Joseph Culp's overacting works for the Doom character, even if you couldn't understand any of his lines thanks to the mask. I'm glad I got this, even though I got it too late to participate in the crowd funding.

Why has the F4 been so hard to film? I'm guessing because it's an ensemble story that, unlike the rest of the Marvel stories, has to produce four origin stories (five counting Doom's) , four heroes' journeys, four story arcs and be wrapped within a GREAT BIG HUGE SPECTACLE movie with explosions and set pieces and love interests and side plots and humor and everything else they can stuff in there. With something like Iron Man you can introduce, say, Nick Fury in small doses and do a solo film about his personal thing at any future point. But with these people, who are practically joined at the hip from scene one, you have to juggle everything all the time; it's like a ten ring circus.

On the subject of documentaries about low budget film makers there's a Al Adamson doco currently on Prime about Al Adamson which was to coincide with a Blu-Ray box set of his movies. (yes really) it features some familiar faces including some from Dracula vs. Frankenstein Blood & Flesh: The Reel Life & Ghastly Death of Al Adamson https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10394874/?ref_=nm_flmg_arf_4
