Quality moment of nepotism with Robin's dad. Ah, "Cape Canaveral Monsters." It must have been on some kind of power-rotation on the local t.v. channel's "Chiller Theater" when I was a kid. The chemistry may be wrong, but it proves conclusively that Griffith Park is located in Florida.

Yeah, when I was a kid (in the 60s) this film seemed to be constantly coming up on WPIX's "Chiller Theater" (in New York). That, and "The She Demons".

In the The Human Duplicators, starring the very large Richard Kiel, the plot itself is standard issue crazy (replace scientists with android replicas to steal valuable secrets) but it's the color scheme and costume choices that really amaze me. The Famous Scientist's California Mansion Containing Blind Niece is just outlandishly decorated and more garish than a Reno Brothel on New Year's Eve--primary colors and various period pieces are not only clashing but have declared a Battle Royale. Throw in niece Lisa's various insanely inappropriate outfits--not sexy inappropriate, just crazy over the top formal for hanging around your uncle's mansion--and you've got an LSD trip without the pesky flashbacks. What's really nuts is that this was made in 1965, when you'd think having color film wouldn't be such a huge deal, but the decor etc. flash back to when everything was absolutely saturated in the brightest hues available to show off the new technology.

Somehow, I have managed to miss this one.... now I have to decide between it and Ghosts that Still Walk....

Loved that bit with your dad 😆

Quirky things that liven up a dull film? None I can think of. But my old gaming crew used to liven them up by doing counting games. Like with Plan 9 there is the counting Bela / not Bela appearances or can you tell in any scene whether it's supposed to be day or night. In Robot Monster, calculate how many minutes the guy in the gorilla suit spends walking up desert valley path's. Another one is to guess all the times a young girl shudders, turns and buries her head (palms to face) in the comforting arms of the hero. The closest answer is declared winner and pays the pizza and beer bill for the movie night. If it was a Roger Corman film then we'd have to name other films that he took his stock footage from or which film has the same scenery / sets. That one gets tough.

Man, those jokes about a severed limb really struck me completely unarmed.
