Ahh i think it's too bad you've got such limited time. I wish more people knew that 7th Voyage was heavily inspired by Popeye the Sailor Meets Sindbad the Sailor, one of the best Popeye shorts ever made. The cyclops and roc from Voyage seem inspired by monsters from the Popeye film, and the overall island setting seems taken from it. At least they sure didn't take it from the story XD i think there's some interview where Harryhausen mentions it, but I can't remember where atm

Really looking forward to this video tho!

Looking forward to the special. I know it will be good and I will share it with other Ray Harryhausen fans.

By the way Robin, I'm currently reading The Vengeance Of The Invisible Man and enjoying it greatly.

I have recently discovered your channel and while I have enjoyed the reviews as much as the next fellow, the longer-form pieces have blown my mind with their depth, quality, and fresh take on even the most heavily traveled territory. I think the reviews have been fun, breezy, and a bit like popcorn—fun and easy to enjoy. A great diversion for the newly-quarantine-screwed up attention span. Pop a handful's worth and smile! But the specials are AMAZING. But they DO take an investment of both time and mental focus that differs from the reviews but that always that rewards. Still, that investment but may not come as easily right now. That said, I cannot wait for the RH special. You always bring something new to the table, be it insight, factoids, or just that sense of humor.

I can't wait for the special, personally, both because I love Harryhausen and I don't want your head to explode! Working on this kind of thing can feel like having too much time to plan a marriage proposal--so many things you want to say, so little time to say it, what if they don't like it, what if I forget XYZ, etc. But judging from your work in the past, I'm not worried a bit. Watching your updates makes me think of Ray Bradbury's old stories about meeting Harryhausen and how thrilling it was to watch his stuff on the movie screen--actually seeing living dinosaurs! No amount of CGI can take the place of whatever stardust he sprinkled on his achievements.

First and foremost, I think somebody deserves a drink. Cheers. Is there anything we can do on social media to promote the special and, if so, when would you like us to do it? Something that's always struck me about the last three features is how they come just ahead and at the initial crest of the modern age of fantasy/science fiction blockbusters, in 1973, 1977, and 1981. It's the moment when the filmmakers who were inspired by Harryhausen got their first at bats. Without getting too sappy about it, you can imagine a continuity of imagination taking place. One more amazing aspect of an amazing career.

You can tell how much stress Robin has been under, his face-fur has fallen out! Seriously though, I got some Leopard Geckos recently and we are staggered by just how like Harryhausen creatures they move, especially the little jerky movements of their tails. Harryhausen really nailed it!

Its regrettable that you have to review the Z grade in order to justify the A grade/ passion projects, but at the same time I think its at least appropriate considering your influences (MST3K, RLM, Cinemassacre to varying degrees). Trashy movies and bite-size reviews just go together like peanut butter and jelly though. I don’t always have the time for Brandon Tenold, the time/ patience for RLM, the ability to appreciate the passionate but often shallow points of Cinemassacre, or the focus it sometimes takes me to parse that arcane accent of Ryan Hollinger (I find it fascinating, but it was a steep, short learning curve for me. And come on, nobody’s that Irish, are they?). But I love your essays too. You are clearly passionate without making it personal, very well researched and edited, and you’ve never devolved into that almost intolerable Youtube video essayist voice I’ve noticed (looking at you, Entertain The Elk and Breadsword). Just be patient, I suppose. The cream will rise to the top eventually and the smartypants will find you just sheer power of The Algorithm. And look at FoundFlix, that guy has a million+ subscribers and he sounds like a robot trying (and failing) to sound like an interesting person. That might be contra encouraging but I was feeling petulant and robots are guilt free targets.

Really looking forward to this, shame that the effort caused your face fuzz to fall off, I was just getting used to it. :)

I've been checking out the horror and monster movie documentaries on YOUTUBE and BING. and still no one has yet to match anything you guys. If it wasn't for RH there wouldn't have been a Godzilla and other giant monster movies ( Beast From 20,000 Fathoms). RH also had a big impression on Dungeon & Dragons. Even The X-Files used his name and a stop-motion alien called Lord Harryhausen. PS Robin, I have a lot to teach you about guns; got any questions, just ask me.
