If only it was as good as the poster.
I wanted to do The Lamp (also known as The Outing) because we're always looking for something different and a horror about a genie seemed novel. Unfortunately, for the vast majority of its runtime this could be any supernatural killing machine running amok, and only ten minutes from the end do we see it and does it start granting carelessly made wishes. Which is really frustrating, because from time to time we all say 'I wish....' without meaning it and that would be interesting, but instead the genie kills thirteen people with no motivation except; this is a horror film. There's no reason for it to be a genie. Without novelty value there's no real reason to review this despite a few amusing bits, but even those are mostly of the 'why?!' variety. Why do six kids want to spend the night in a museum basement? (because otherwise there's no movie). Why does no one in the museum during the day notice the hideous screams coming from the curator's office? (because that would end the film early). Why does the museum have a large bathtub in its specimen room? (because when the specimens come to life and kill a girl, we'd like her to be naked).
Disappointing.

Incidentally, one of the alternative taglines for this was 'You'll wish you were dead'. Bet they regretted that one.

The Man In The Bottle episode of The Twilight Zone did it right with a polite genie who didn’t take every “I wish....” literally.
