Standing out here, it seems clear you made the right decision. It also sounds like you’ve taken some pressure off the nerve and will be able to move forward with a sharper focus on the script. I’d be careful about tossing around the word “failure.” It can be a pretty toxic albatross to hang around your own neck and, frankly, doesn’t seem at all appropriate for this kind of setback at this stage of the process. Finish the script and enjoy the ride.

It’s always best to have the script in hand and be in good spirits about it. It’s a setback, but not an end. Just a rest stop. Read it a few times, toss some ideas inside your head, then go back to it. And if you ever want a second pair of eyes, from one writer to another, just ask.
