I always felt the 1953 war of the worlds film was rather overtly heavy handed with its god stuff. The lead actress kept going on about god. The final scene even has the lead running from church to church. Also the religouse offical who in the book goes insane is in that version heroically standing his ground in one last hope for peice. While yes the book references the bacteria killing the martians as god in his infinite wisdom its not done in a way in which god actualy did it and can be interpreted as just nature. The 50s version goes out of its way to say god did it. hmm, rather appropriate for me to bring that up given it was one year after this film and both featured mars.

"That's what you get for marrying the prophet Cassandra." As discussed, this is an odd one, but I think the review works on every level. Like something out of Bill Warren's epic book "Keep Watching the Skies!"

Little known fact; The original title for the G.Pals War of the Worlds was Norman Rockwell vs The Martian

One of my favorite cold war films, both for its entire lack of subtlety and the fact that it's completely nuts. :-)
