It's always great to hear you talk about silent films. No condescension, no apologies, just respect and context and enthusiasm. And a throw away line like, "The film was introduced by Kevin Brownlow."

In the 1935 version, she was killed by the Squire in the barn with a pistol. The Squire then dug a deep deep grave (still in the barn) and buried her in it...while also losing his pistol in the grave. Of course, the pistol would prove the Squire's guilt at the end of the movie. There is a YouTube channel called "Silent Movies" which has "The virgin of Stamboul ."

That's pretty similar to the silent plot, except he digs the grave and loses the gun whilst burying her (or possibly buries the pistol deliberately, which seems dumb). rb
