Summary: Hank (Noel Marshall) is an American man that lives with multiple lions, tigers, cougars, jaguars and other wild animals in Africa due to being a caretaker to the tribes of Tanzania. His wife Madeleine, (Tippi Hedren) her two sons, (John and Jerry Marshall) and her daughter Melanie (Melanie Griffith) have come from Chicago to the airport as he will bring them back to his ranch. He ends up being late, so Madeleine and the three board a bus that reaches the house, only to realise it has been left unattended. When Madeleine and Jerry open a window they see a pack of lions eating a zebra carcass. Frightened by the lions, they try to pursue hiding places from them. The family, in a final effort to escape the lions, hide out in a smaller building. They are surrounded by the pack when they awaken, and conclude that since they were not attacked in their sleep, the animals are not as vicious as they imagined.

Scariest review yet. Considering this is a comedy channel, I’m not sure how you should take that. It hasn’t overshadowed the movie in my mind, but the making of Apocalypse Now was interesting since everyone was drunk or high.

I remember hearing about some of the behind the scenes troubles with the infamous film Cannibal Holocaust. That sounded like a literal nightmare to shoot, full of arguments and fighting as well as the actual animal killings which were not edited and instead shown onscreen. Plus despite the films supposedly "anti racist" message the director was reportedly almost as horrible to the natives as the documentary crew are in the film.

I'm guessing one of the most famous examples of a movie's backstory overshadowing the movie is Howard Hughes' The Conqueror. I mean, any film where you cast John Wayne as Gengis Khan was going to wind up being a milestone in bad filmmaking, but... Hughes famously filmed a significant part of the movie in Utah and additionally shipped tons of dirt back to Hollywood for reshoots. In and of itself, this is not a problem. The fact that the site used for filming had, only 3 years previously, been the site of multiple nuclear tests was. I'm getting my figures here from Wikipedia, so they may not be totally accurate, but, apparently, 91 out of 220 cast and crew members developed cancer - Pedro Armendárez famously committing suicide upon discovering his condition was terminal. This does not count the people who visited the set. Among that set of people who developed cancer were two of Waynes sons and the son of Co-Star Susan Heyward. People have speculated that some developed cancer for other reasons (smoking, for instance - Wayne attributed his lung cancer to that, rather than The Conqueror), but I bet the filming situation didn't help any. :-|
