To coincide with the Justice League movie (hopefully) we're doing a review of yet another superhero TV pilot, this time for Wonder Woman, done just a year before the more familiar Lynda Carter version. This one actually took me surprise and I think we'll be doing a bit of extra talking about it outside of the main review. Still enough funny stuff for a review though - the villains in these pilots never have the budget for their grandiose plans for world domination, this one's got like 4 henchmen.

This was during the period when Wonder Woman had been de-powered ( making her more like Emma Peel from The Avengers, which was very popular at the time in the US ). They also wanted to get as far away from the old Batman TV series as they could.

Have you see the screen-test for the Wonder Woman series proposed by the creator of the old Batman TV series? Terrifying is not a strong enough word.

I saw it ... and regretted it . No wonder Linda Harrison never speaks of it. About the same time they came out with the Superman musical and looks like they copying that. Expect for the Green Hornet , television really didn't know how handle comic book and pulp characters at all during the 60's , 70's , and 80's . Most of the film makers didn't know anything about comic characters , were never fans of comics and worse , dismissed them as kid stuff. It wasn't until Sam Ramini and Kevin Smith got into movie making did we see any respect for the source material. If someone wants to see a good movie influenced by comics , they should start with DARKMAN.

Maybe you guys should do a review of all the comic characters that deserve a shot on one of TV shows , or even their own movie. Fore DC shows I would like to see THE QUESTION ( I think he would work on SUPERGIRL ) , THE PHANTOM STRANGER ( the only DC character with FOUR origin stories in a single issue of SECRET ORGINS ) , THE DOOM PATROL ( they already dropped Rita Farr's name ) , ROBBIE REED ( DIAL H FOR HERO , another SUPERGIRL ) , THE METAL MEN ( THE FLASH ) , CHALLENGERS OF THE UNKNOWN ( LEGENDS OF TOMORROW ). I'm sure you guys could come up with a few on your own as well.
