Just finished both reactions. It seems like you really enjoy the show. The humor, bantar, even the tension and love among everyone, is one of the best parts. They are a real crew, a family, and it's evident every moment. I hope you enjoy the rest of the show, and I look forward to watching it for the 100th time or something with you.

You might also recognize Gina Torres from the second and third Matrix movies, as well as some episodes of Westworld. She was also in Suits, but I don't think you've seen that show. This episode aired September 20, 2002. The in-universe explanation as to why everyone speaks Chinese is that the United States and China merged to eventually form the Alliance. If you pay close attention, you can see that the Alliance flag is actually a merging of both the United States and Chinese flags. The real reason why is that Joss Whedon wanted a way for the characters to curse without the censors intervening. Turns out they don't bother translating foreign words typically. Morena Baccarin, who plays Inara, also plays Vanessa in both Deadpool movies and Dr. Leslie Thompkins in Gotham. Firefly literally falls intothe genre of space western like Star Trek, which started the genre, and Cowboy Bebop. A better word that "whore" or "prostitute" would be "courtesan." The word you're looking for the second time is "paralyzed." Adam Baldwin who plays Jayne is 6'5". Mei-mei is Chinese for young woman or young sister depending on how it's used.
