I'm sure you've heard this a bunch of times, but Buffy was a pioneer when it comes to blending stand-alone episodes and story arcs. Very few shows did this before Buffy, but many shows have done it since. So Buffy was part of a new wave of carefully constructed serialized shows along with Twin Peaks, Babylon 5, and a couple of other shows that I am less familiar with.

You're not the only one that felt that Angel feeding on Buffy was very sexualized. Even for this decade, Buffy is still ahead of it's time. There is a reboot in the mix right now. Series creator Joss Whedon isn't a part of it though.
