These were 2 really good episodes! Nice to see aang learning firebending too!

something really interesting is the nature vs nurture aspect of the avatar. it's an immortal soul that's reincarnated thousands of times, but every time it has a slightly different personality and affinity to the elements. they even have to learn the elements based on the cycle so like avatar roku was raised in the fire nation, so he had to learn air first which is the easiest, then water which is in opposition with water, and then earth which is like a fundamental different principle from fire bending

These episodes show a lot about balance and stuff like ying and yang. Just like how dude wants aang to master all 3 elements before learning fire.

It's actually very important that Aang learns to bend the elements in the correct order, otherwise he would not progress and could even hurt others, as seen in episode 16 with Katara. Aang is an airbender, and airbenders are like their element, free and playful. That's why it's important that he learns waterbending first, because it teaches him calm and patience. Then comes earthbending, earth being the natural opposite of air, and with it he learns determination. And these things that he learned through waterbending and earthbending, i.e. calmness, patience and determination, are the important characteristics that he needs in order to be able to learn firebending. That's why the Avatar's must always learn the four elements, like the Avatar cycle is going. Water, Earth, Fire and Air!
