The great divide is commonly considered to be one of the WORST episodes. Not because its particularly bad but because this episode played on repeat when Avatar ran on cable.

episode 12 is also great to show kids watching that abuse is not okay and wrong, even if it is a parent trying to discipline their child. and the impacts it can have on a child growing up.

So to explain one thing. The blue arrows that air nomads have signify that one is an abending master. From the books, it is found out that Aang was the youngest airbender too receive his master tattoos. Also, when AAng is in the avatar state. His tattoos also glow because the arrows are placed along chakra points lining the body. No spoilers just a bit of random info.

the dynamic between Zuko/Aang are elite. Zuko was punished for being selfless and thinking of others, while Aang was punished for being being fearful and somewhat selfish. And yet, their punishments completely shaped their character traits into their current arcs

As someone who’s watched this whole series and The Legend of Korra over multiple times I just had so many realizations in episode 12 then I feel like I should have😭 I won’t spoil ofc but if you keep the backstories in mind I wonder if you’ll notice what I mean

Why, why why why have I only realised now on what could be, kind of lowballing it, but my 20th or so watch, that most likely a big reason that Iroh was travelling with Zuko during his exile was that fact that he was the one that ultimately allowed Zuko to attended that war meeting which resulted in his scarring.

It's not hate of the episode, so much as exhaustion with it from its many, many reruns. It's like nickelodeon lost every other recording except that episode for like a 3 year period.
