Since you didn't seem to have notice it, do you remember last episode when Fern talked about odd spell Frieren was collecting, and turning grape sour was one of them? I think we may have found why she obtain it in this episode, and this really heartwarming to see imo :)

One thing I’ll say is that I’m really in love with how this anime plays into Tropes and DONT use them. They set it up like a typical situation and then go the opposite direction. Like when Fern saw the cat while stalking Frieren and Ron thought it was gonna be the regular ‘look up and the person you’re pursing is gone’ type of trope. Or when Frieren went into the cafe with all the “bad people” and we also thought they were gonna be bad guys and that Frieren would have to fight them but they just turned out to be rough looking individuals who love adventuring and were actually very nice people. If there’s any take away from this show it’s that, I love it for that. It’s honestly so refreshing.
