Wow... seeing Subaru's deaths again and how they affected everyone was so hard... what is Echidna trying to show him?!

I remember reading an article back when this episode first aired about Echidna's voice actress managing to record that entire monologue in a single take. There was a LOT of dialogue, so it's a pretty impressive feat (even for an industry veteran like Maaya Sakamoto).

Yeah, that’s the problem with Echidna. She will get you to your goal but she doesn’t care how the people are feeling afterwards. They’ll be alive but they could be depressed and she won’t process that into her mind.

Yeah she is a witch of greed without any understanding of people's feelings. She knows about emotions and can mimic them to further her agenda, but she really doesn't feel them herself.

If you are interested, once you got a chance you should check out Re:Zero if stories from Echidnut on youtube. If I remember correctly, those are stories that the author wrote to show what would happen to Subaru if he had choose another path during his journey, and there is the Greed if story where it shows what would have happen if he had accepted that contract. I believe they are spoilers free, but if someone could just confirms it it would be great just to be safe. Oh and there is also a story involving Rem, and Subaru that show what would have happen if Subaru decided to flee the city with her instead of going for Emilia ;)

Some are spoiler free, some are not. Depends where you’re currently in the story. But the greed if contains slight spoilers for arc 5

So a little bit of explanation, Echidna is literally a sociopath with no emotion, she knows how to mimic most emotions pretty well (except love). Secondly when she was giving her spiel on what she could offer what she was basically saying was that she would guide Subaru to the best possible option, but how would you know what the best possible future is? By going back repeatedly, over and over again killing Subaru until she had all the information and was able to progress, possibly dooming countless futures. Also and this is more of a theory rather than fully true, but each of the witches is a perfect example of good intentions leading to the path to hell. Unfortunately, their powers and histories are explained by the Author in interviews and side stories mostly rather than fully in the novels or the show. I will go over the ones we already basically know about. Echidna (greed) is all about the pursuit of knowledge, but what is knowledge without emotion and love? And she is willing to give up anything and use anyone to obtain what she wants. Daphne (gluttony) felt an eternal and vast hunger and didn't want anyone else to feel how she did so she made Mabeasts to feed people, and those ended up receiving her hunger but not her control and thus ended up eating and killing more than they ever fed. Minerva (wrath) is an interesting one; her power as you have seen allows her to reverse causality and heal people by draining mana from the world around her. That is how her punches healed Subaru last time. This ability had the side effect of taking mana from random places in the world causing natural disasters to occur effectively making it so she killed many more people than she saved. There are others but explaining them may spoil future events.
