Re:Zero is one of the very few anime that will never spoon feed the audience. The only way to really make sense of everything is usually to take notes or have a very very good memory lol. But don't worry, us loyal patreons will be here to help explain things that are confusing ;). There's a barrier around the sanctuary set up by the Dead witch of greed, Echidna that prevents exit/entry for anyone with mixed blood. Garfiel and the mixed blood residents in the sanctuary who were born here can never leave thanks to this barrier. Emilia should not have been able to enter, but was able to because of the stone that frederica gave her, but now she's inside the sanctuary - she can't leave. That stone apparently helps with entry but not exit lol. Only way to leave is to break the barrier by taking on the graveyard trial. Only those with mixed bloods can take the trial, and of course - subaru thanks to echidna as you saw earlier. Subaru and the villagers of arlam are all able to leave since they're not mixed bloods, but garfiel is holding them hostage to give emilia a reason to attempt the trial. She would have had to take it either way because she can't escape, but the hostages are insurance to really convince her. Roswaal attempted the trial and got injured, because if anyone who's not a half blood takes it, it rejects them and hurts them. Subaru would have ended up like roswaal had echidna not given him the right to face the trial.

The figurines at the end dont mean much beyond that subaru had a thing for white haired girls (hence his immediate obsessive attraction to emilia) next episode is one of my favorites. It was my most requested thing for an isekai anime to do. Really deep dive into the MC past. (Assuming you already watched next ep considering you guys mentioned Father's day which was a bit ago) hope you had a good time with your family Lye batenkaitos has a good comment explaining some of your confusion so far. Man I can’t wait for you guys to really get into this season. Season 1 has some great moments but season 2 is where a lot of my favorite things about this story come to fruition. Especially looking forward to the next episode

After clearing the village prior to the sloth battle. Why did Ram and Roswall take everyone to the Sanctuary, why are they there at this point in the story? This season is a huge suspenseful mystery, so as each episode goes by you will get more and more information to what's going on or how/why they ended up there. Everything will end up being explained in regard to that motive as episodes go by. Definitely feel free to keep asking us if you both are confused in regard to dialogue, a big thing with Re:zero are characters talk in such a cryptic way constantly so it's definitely easy to get lost.
