nah he's right It's just a common trope in anime. One way we can kind of explain it tho is that endeavor at that moment was overheated so he had to cold out for a bit

Gran Torino and Aizawa were the two most clutch heroes and Shigaraki got rid of both of them in one episode. Also, Deku's Wyoming Smash was a lot more graphic in the manga. It broke Shigaraki's whole jaw and knocked out a few teeth

I got that vibe about Gran Torino too. He does look like a Grandpa too. Not sure if he's not just a good friend of her's though giving a shoulder to cry on. It's harder to tell since he's never around in shots with her son and there's weird hair colors here so he looks much older than her even when they would have probably been around the same age.
