I would also reccomend watching either the directors cuts of the episodes or watching multiple episodes at once. Also, Though his "ability" is like a save state it is less like a video game and like an actual place with real people with real feelings and desires. Part of Subaru's character flaw is that he also doesn't see the people entirely as people and more as tropes or stereotypes.
