Subaru may seem slow but he has gone through a lot in a short time like being transported in an another world, dying two times with the second death being kinda traumatic. So it's just hard to process everything so I hope you give him a break for that at least lol

To add more to those comments Re:zero is a big one that made this type of anime genre more popular as it is today and why you see so much isekai now. Jobless reincarnation was that for Light Novel readers. It was one that sets the bar high in terms of reading material and anime material, so its nice to start with Re:zero considering it was popular and what made the benchmark for an Isekai when it first came out.

LN reader here, so glad you guys are enjoying it as this is my all time favorite series! On the note of the series being confusing, I wouldn’t say Re: Zero is confusing at all, however it does require/reward those who pay close attention. Those who stated as much might have taken a hiatus partway through, it which case it would then become quite difficult to follow.

When white haired girl gave Subaru a fake name you can see Puck was visibly shocked and even said to her "you have bad taste" a lot of detail is put into the dialogue and random moments. not every single moment is key details but they sneak stuff like that in a lot. I have a feeling Michelle is gonna have a good understanding of Subaru and characters feelings/thoughts throughout the series and Ron will have a good grasp on the world just by the comments throughout the first episode. Look forward to the rest.

I think both mushoku and re zero can be Top 1 isekai, it depends on your tastes. I read the novels, great storytelling from both of them.

The reason people don't suggest Mushoku Tensei to be your first Isekai is that it's a self-aware show. One that pokes fun at the Isekai genre and creates jokes/references around its tropes. It also subverts some genre expectations. It expects its audience to already have some experience with Isekai

Yeah I believe you are mistaken about the show as from my understanding is that Mushoku Tensei is essentially the ‘Grandfather’ of the Isekai genre (not sure if it was the first made or to popularise it etc), so it actually started and popularised the tropes, not really possible to poke fun at the genre that you are starting essentially. I believe the issue people have with it being there first is with all the sexual related content within the show will be very jarring for them I think.

You really shouldn’t listen to Mushoku Tensei fans when it comes to Re:Zero or Mushoku Tensei. Mushoku Tensei is one of the most overrated anime of the last few years.

It’s not a game , it’s an isekai but I love how you two were making those connections because I never saw it from that perspective. I think it’s that the world in games have so much lore and references from real world books that when an isekai uses some of that same lore you get these overlapping ideas and terminology. So excited to see how you guys react with this series. Great music and dialogue !

hell na man mushoku tensei is a really good anime, and one beloved by many. I can totally understand if it is not to your taste, probably because of the MC, but it is a fantastical show, the world building is out of this world and the characters developpment is really well handled. Yes the MC is sometimes annoying, but he learns from his experiences, thats the point. He's not a perfectly fleshed out character from the get go, it's litterally the story of him learning to live and interact in this world

I enjoy both shows. I think Mushoku is a top 5 isekai. However, Re:Zero isn’t just the best isekai, it’s one of the best animes ever made. Mushoku Tensei is just very overrated by their own fanbase. As a fan of both shows, Re:Zero leaves an emotional impact that Mushoku could honestly never reach.

Kinda. It's a dark series like AoT. Subaru is no Eren but he does come across as more human in his weaker moments. Will be fun to see how they feel by ep 15 if they keep it on the schedule

異世界 Iseki just means different/strange world 異-(I) Means strange or unusual. 世界-(Sekai) Just means world. So, Yes, Narnia is technically an Isekai. Anything related to leaving your native world to go to another is an isekai. Don't let the people try to tell you that it can't be an Isekai if it's not Japanese. They have no idea about anything outside of anime. Also the readings for Isekai originates from China/

Both are good takes on the genre. Rezero I feel that the anime lacks details of the LN that can make it hard to follow at times. MT has great animation and is an early staple of the genre although the MC isn't my favorite. Either way Konosuba should be next for some comic relief.

lol you're putting R:zero in a godly place and is not even that good... I give it a 6/10 and mushoku a 8/10, shield hero was 7/10 so i went for mushoku. But if you ask me for a good isekai to start with i woul've told them to watch Overlord or Gate! but those are more enojyable for the story itself more than the fights. And i dont want to bully Re:zero.. but its just it build a so complicated but understandable story u to the second seasond and looks like the writter didnt know too well how to resolve it... so it went a little unfair. But i really say 1 season is so good. (not considering cringe subaru moments)

the comment was more towards Mushoku Tensei is overrated part. nobody is saying Re:0 is anything near generic. they're both great animes, and both LN is far beyond what their respective anime brings. Personally after finishing both LNs I'd choose MT of RE0, but when it comes to reactions I did vote for RE0 because it has a much better beginning in terms of grabbing the audience's attention, making it better content to react to by reactors. Also with cancel culture nowadays not everyone is susceptible to redemption so there's that with MT.

Just to give y'all a heads up, this anime references itself a lot. What I mean by that is that it will drop little references or clues in let's say (for the purpose of example) episode 1 that will make you be like "OOOOOHHHH" when the actual event ends up happening in let's say episode 5 (again just arbitrary number for the purpose of example). And in this way it's suuuuper cool to see how heavily interwoven the plot is in each episode. So excited for y'all's reactions!

If you like fantasy world youll LOVEEEE Mushoku Tensei when you get to it. REzero is great with fantasy but it also is a bit different than your normal, and touches on some realistic subjects

even the title of best isekai is arguable, not to mention best anime. really just depends on personal tastes. obviously Re0 is still updating its resume, but I felt like Mushoku Tensei has me more emotionally involved than Re0. Rather than impact, MT is more of a prolonged period of emotional rollercoaster. where as Re0 packs an emotional punch from time to time. I don't know how I'll feel when Re0 ends, but I know that I felt empty when I got to the end of MT, it's something truly spectacular. Speaking of which, by the way you're talking Re0 is overrated within its fanbase too, if you're representing it. many shows can compete with re0: slime, no game, Overlord, Mushoku Tensei. Heck, even an niche SAO argument can be made.

Re Zero is alot about mental health, keep in mind when Subaru dies he feels all the pain and remembers the pain. Imagine what that would do to someone. He doesn't fully realize he's respawning because its kinda hard to believe and for him its almost like a dream. If I were in his shoes it would have for sure taken a couple of deaths to realize whats going on.

I just want to say without spoiling or giving any hints. Remember he feels pain and actually dies. The Mental Trauma doesn’t disappear. We see that from fainting at the end of the episode

if you like RPG then That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is really good and I also would recommend Overlord which has one of the most badass anime characters of all time and it is also an RPG-type anime.

The thing is that Isekai referes to another world u go to, something like Lord of the Rings would only be Fantasy not Isekai bc u need to start of from OUR world and get transported to another fanatasy or maby sci-fi world, only then u would count it as an Isekai.

That's literally the point of the character and story. I've read the entire series and Rudy is my favorite fictional character I've ever read. His character development is absolutely phenomenal and I wish people weren't so judgemental. You just have no idea. The premise of should people have the opportunity to have a second chance and better themsleves is so beautiful. Everyone should have the opportunity to change and become someone to be looped up too and respected. Everyone.

Doubt this will be read by them so late into the series but this show is a realistic representation of the mental state someone would be in if they actually were violently being murdered and repeating their life. Regardless if it's a game or reality, life is precious and no one likes suffering and dying. Keep that in mind and it will make the show so much better. Subaru's journey is unforgettable and unique so I hope you enjoy!

So a lot of the Characters in this show are named after stars or constellations. Subaru is named after a constellation of 7 stars named the Pleiades. Also happy you started this series. I think a lot of young men identify with this show a lot because of the themes of depression, feeling worthless and wanting to be a hero.
