Great reaction guys, so glad you could experience this cult movie that had a significant influence on Matrix, Westworld and many other series and films! As far as I know, there is only one direct sequel to this and it's "Ghost in the shell 2: Innocence" (2004), also directed by Mamoru Oshii and I highly recommend it to comprehend much more about the depths of the storyline and world of cyborgs. It can get a bit complicated to follow all the philosophical concepts, but at the same time you wonder what could really happen with this technology in our future, and I agree it's not that far from what the movie depicts. About the other movies and series, they're part of the same universe but with different perspectives and characterisation of the main protagonist.

imagine getting pop-up ads in your peripheral vision with your chip if you don't pay for a crazy premium service. i think neuralink applications for anything other than dementia and other medical applications is kinda sketchy

We stand on the shoulders of giants, y'all. The Ghost in the Shell manga was published in the early 1990s (pre-Windows 95/www internet age). The Minority Report movie was based on a short story written Philip K. Dick in the mid-1950s, which is when cyberpunk started to come into its own as a subgenre of Science Fiction. ETA: Here's an interesting (and long) interview with Masamune Shirow from 1998 http://www.jai2.com/MSivu.htm

I'd love to see you both react to Princess Mononoke. Fav Ghibli Movie!

Its great to see you guys reacting to classics like Ghost in the Shell among the Ghibli movies and look forward to future movies you will watch! Cant say I'm too excited with the decision to watch this one with English dubs though. Being from a country in which practically everything is subtitled instead of dubbing, hearing English dubs just feels like it takes away from the experience. As for experiences, I do have to suggest Redline for a movie. It's action, fun, visual splendor and pure high octane speed.
