Usually one season of anime would take a year to produce and air. The quickest to produce an anime I would say maybe 6 months with a full dedicated team from a big production studio. With so many anime projects production studios are taking up to produce, they can usually churn out the anime one season a year for popular anime like attack on titan. Season 1-3 of AOT was produced by WIT studio and due to scheduling issues Season 4 and Final Season of AOT was taken over by MAPPA to produce.

To clarify, the manga was indeed written out before the anime. The reason why AOT is so well animated is because the author participated so much in the animation production since he guided the team on how majority of the scenes should be executed (that's why this show is better watched the 2nd time because the author slipped in SO MANY foreshadowing even in the ops and eds). The author was so invested in making sure that his story is well told through animation that he even meets the voice actors to talk about how to deliver certain lines in a certain matter. In fact, Eren's character was so complex, even to the author himself, that the voice actor helped him understand Eren's emotions and thoughts (in the future seasons) since he was acting in the character's shoes. I really liked how the author's interactions with the team helped with how the story unfolded.

This isn't true. He has only a small say in the anime and had hardly any involvement with it. He himself even said "If I think about if something is good for the work or not, I think that I should abandon my own preferences for a moment and think." in regards to WiT changing episode 22 a ton. He's busy. He rarely touched the anime. And to chalk up the amazing animation to a manga artist giving tips just makes zero sense. It's amazing animation because it has talented animators ad money. That's all.

Thanks for clarifying stuff for me. I might've exaggerated on the "so invested" part, maybe his involvement in the anime production lessened throughout the seasons compared to season 1. Just to be clear, I'm not completely shunning the efforts and hard work of the animators, I truly respect them. My comment might not have been the most accurate, but I wouldn't say it's all wrong; Isayama was still clearly involved with the production when it comes to checking and adding information on the storyboard. The communication between the voice actor wasn't false either as I've seen interviews about it.

A lot of anime start getting produced from manga that are expected to run for a long time once they gain enough popularity and have enough for the first season and the ability to create enough content for additional seasons at the same rate that the anime would animate the story. Preferably the anime would run after 2-3 seasons of plot has already been released and they are able to gauge interest but if a story is good and popular enough it can get an offer to become an anime as soon as it hits the base requirements for a feasible anime.
