In the manga ace doesn’t travel with the crew in the desert he part ways after destroying those billions ships, so basically since in anime hes still there he doesn’t add anything because the anime director didn’t know what to do with him

To put it into perspective of you go by a ranking scale crocodile is basically level one where Luffy requires his base move set to defeat him yes he is super tough now considering the fighting level of the crew since only Luffy Sanji zoro and chopper can actually fight and have training ussop and Nami really struggle initially....point is currently crocodile is really really strong and dangerous and his arc will show just how evil the seve warlords of the sea can be
