I would assume Migi hearing doesn't need ears, but intercepts the sound waves around him. Migi can already somehow telepathically sense it's own kind too so receiving signals is very different from a human.

Michelle makes a good point about the episode kinda being about motherhood I agree. Episode had some sad moments from the flashback of how Shinichi's mom got her scar and her saying he's changed like he isn't her son anymore
