Ok first think I wanna say is that I work in a program called Clip Studio Paint, and this tutorial could work in other art programs with similar features but may need to be done a slightly different way.
Second the canvas I use in this tutorial is around the size of a piece of paper and at 300DPI. I get really sharp pixel perfect colors and edges
So with her hair is the part that's going to be more the one color I shade and highlight it. With that done I click "Selection" and then "Select Color Gamut..."
which should then open up the "Select Color Gamut" window. I pick the eye dropper with a + on it because that allows me to pick more then one color and i pick all her hair colors.
with all of the parts selected i click "Ok" in the window which closes it and leaves the selection. I then copy and paste the colors on to their own layer
As you can see the eyes are the same colors as the hair so they where copied too but the eyes arnt going to need any recoloring it so I erase them from the this layer
I repeat the same steps with the Selection>Select Color Gamut stuff as before but this time I only pic one color on the layer. I use the color wheel to make a new color and then use the paint bucket in a selection control panel that shows up below to selection to fill the selection in with the new color
I repeat this on the other parts of the hair until I get the look I want, they can be changed later if I wanted. (Side Note) this is also a good way to fix specific colors with out having to redraw them.
Now with the colors I want in place I make a mask for the layer
I make the original layer visible and with the mask on the top layer selected I start erasing and painting until I get the look I want for her hair, Which turned out some thing like this
This can also be used for other things, I also used these steps to make the stripes on her bikini.
There is probably allot of ways to do this but I find this way works for me and gives me allot of control of the colors. I hope that taught you all some thing and don't feel you have to follow this exactly, every one works differently find out what works for you
