The guy from the church that Bunny Colvin was sitting down talking to is the the real life drug kingpin from Baltimore that Avon Barksdale character is loosely based off. All the characters on the show are based off an amalgamation of real people David Simon and Ed Burns known throughout the years working at the Baltimore Sun newspaper and the police department in Baltimore. Some of the real life people play bit characters in the show.
