Good evening dear Patrons. I hope you've all had a nice weekend.

So I've had about a week on the recent edit of Random Rocket League Bullshittery (part 1) and things have been quite productive.

In the last updated I mentioned having to go through and "scrub" the 27 archived streams for Rocket League in order to find the highlights. This is because my notes were so slap-dash back in the day that i'm not entirely sure where everything is. And have to watch each game to find the useful pieces.

Over 7 days I've been able to carefully scrub 12 streams in total, producing 138 useful highlights which are now saved and nested in the master project file (Including about 500 additional cuts that I'll explain in a moment.)

Now during said scrubbing there was an intriguing revelation...

The gags for this particular project are fast. Very fast. This relates to how I categorise clips in my projects, giving them numerical values from 1 to 3.

A joke that I would categorise as 1 would be something quick like "why do you have a Deagle, Moogle?" "Because it's Thursday". And a 3 joke would be a slow-burn or compilation that might take up a minute or more of the run-time (Vietnam's "racist bell" sequence, for example). A 2 joke is in a middle ground between the two.

My objective during the cutting stage is to spread out the 1, 2 and 3's in such a way that a certain rhythm is maintained. For too many 1's and you risk overwhelming the viewer. But too many 3's and the time between the laughs slows down too much.

But the majority of highlights in Rocket League appear to be 1's - and very fast ones at that. The average time for each clip appears to be around 3 seconds. I attribute this down to Rocket League's particular style of game-play. It's very fast paced and usually involves more than 4 people. Meaning you don't have time for in-depth conversation about life events, giving opportunities for people to make come backs and use their wits.

Compare and contrast with something like the DayZ mod in which you're trudging through fields for hours and have nothing but time to talk. This also explains why the 2's and the 3's I do have for Rocket League are almost entirely on the main menu.

This has given me an idea for this particular bullshittery. To intentionally play to the strengths of the footage and turn this bullshittery into a supercut.

In editing parlance, a supercut is a type of edit that intentionally cuts very quickly, often before sentences are even complete, for humorous effect. With out-of-context words included as part of the humour. An example of a supercut -  The Boston Sunfish - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uST43LYxvAw

As a result, I've been cutting and saving all of the amusing bumps, squeals and insults that we've been yelling we play against each other. And playing them back quickly has been great thus far.

The cutting continues and shall probably continue for a few more days. But everything thus far is going swimmingly.
