A patron reward for Richard Westberry. Last year I did a drawing of his badger OC as a Royalist musketeer from the English Civil War. Slow Match This time I've drawn him as a Parliamentary Cavalryman from the same conflict.

The day's battle is over and his side has been victorious. A local Royalist manor has been looted and tonight the Parliamentary forces will enjoy more than just basic rations. Tonight this veteran has procured a loaf of fresh, fine white bread, a wedge of aged cheese, and a decanter of good wine.

However, even amongst his meal and revelry he takes the time to maintain his horse and gear. In particular his wheel-lock pistol. This is probably the most valuable item he owns. After carefully cleaning and reloading his pistol he's taken the key that usually hangs from his sash, and with it he's wound the spring on the lock. Now when it's time for him to stand watch this evening his pistol will be ready for use if he needs it.

FYI. You might be looking at that horse pistol and thinking it's too big. It's not. Many of them had barrels over 20" in length and calibers larger than .50.
