Another drawing started during my most recent Picarto stream. It was a request for Sunset Shimmer in a bomber jacket. After some discussion with the audience it was decided to draw her as an anthro pony.

Ever since I drew Sunset in an aviation themed pinup Ready to Fly I've had this idea of Sunset being a pilot. I've gotten all kinds of suggestions of what kind of plane bacon hair might fly.

Because of the original pinup/nose art nature of the first drawing I was inclined to have her own some kind of surplus military aircraft. Some suggestions have been made and some have been very cool but completely impractical. Especially if one assumes Sunset has limited financial means. Also I wanted an aircraft that wasn't so large that it overwhelmed the mare when she's posed with it.

One idea was the North American T-28B Trojan, but feeding that Wright R-1820 radial wouldn't be cheap. Link  Then I remember the non-turboprop powered Beechcraft T-34 Mentor which is derived from the Beechcraft Bonanza.  The aircraft is capable of performing acrobatic flight but is relatively easy to afford. Also I've always been fond of the Beechcraft Bonanza.

T34 is a good choice. I flew one at a Top Gun adventure school back years ago. An easy plane to fly. This was a air combat adventure. You could either ride as the instructor flew or flew under the instructor care. I got it pretty quick and was soon busting moves that even the instructor liked. The opponent I faced tended to to turn after the head on pass to start. I went vertical which not only put me behind but above you. Using gravity to slow then gain it back on the dive. That T34 handled it perfectly. Just my instructor was no where near as pretty, him being an old retired USAF Lt Col, past instructor at the USAF Weapons School out of Nellis AFB.
