I want to thank everyone who tuned in last Saturday for my 3rd anniversary Picarto stream. If you were watching you know I was working on a piece for the Bronycon 2018 charity auction.  However if you were there for the stream, or follow me regularly DA or  Twitter you may realize that this is not the piece I was working on.

When I was in art school we learned four very important things not so  much about actual art, but about human behavior and perception.

1.  Every artist, even artists with decades of experience, will  occasionally have piece that ends up being a dud. The important thing is  get back up, learn from it, and move on.

2. If  one or two people, who are not the client, criticizes something in a  piece you've done you may choose to listen to them or not. If 3 or 4  people note the same thing you may still want to ignore it. This is especially true if they are not the target market. However you may want to look into. If 5 or more people comment on it then there maybe problem. This leads to the next point.

3.  It doesn't matter what your intended message was if a meaningful  portion of the population takes away a different message from them piece  than the one you meant. It can be the result of you not clearly  defining the composition and elements in the piece. Yes, you can have people who deliberately attempting to hijack, troll, destroy the message, but it is something worth keeping in mind. This leads to the final point.

4.  If you have to keep explaining or defending a piece then the actual  message of the piece gets diluted and it loses its effectiveness and  usefulness.

So the original piece I  did had a design element that some people either accidentally or  deliberately misread, or just decided to be snarky ass about and have  mentioned repeatedly in the chat, whispers, comments, and notes to me  since the stream. Since the point of creating the piece was to help  raise money for the Bronycon auction I felt the original piece was  effectively poisoned goods since this ear worm was now out in the  population. Therefore I redid the entire piece the next day and this is  it.

I will finish this post with two more  comments. Another thing we learned in art school was to have thick skins  and to know when to spot a jerk. People are not offering you  constructive feedback, who do not have your best interests at heart. Who  just like to grandstand, be crass, or want to tear other people down  for whatever reason they have in their minds. They bring nothing  beneficial to the table and they like to cause fires that other people  have to come along and put out later. They just clutter the world with  their chatter. Ignore them whenever possible.

Folks like that I deliberately ignore and if they become too much of  hassle they end up no longer being able to view my page. Especially if  they are not patrons, clients, or customers of mine. I haven't had to  block, ban, or kick someone in awhile but it is always an option, and it  is an option I am willing to use again in the future if necessary.  Being an ass maybe fashionable in some circles but not here.

I still hear Katie Perry's Firework when I look at this.

I forgot to join your patreon until just the other day, so I don't know what all went on. But this looks cheerful and energetic. I like it.

I had to leave partway through the stream, so I don't know what went on. I'm sorry to hear that you were the target of such infantile and unkind behaviour. I thought that the original piece was quite lovely, and I very much enjoyed what I saw of it taking shape. Thank you, as ever, Baron, for your art and for allowing us into the process of (some of) its creation: you are a gentlepony and a scholar, and always a gracious host.

I think the last one looked great and there wasn't anything wrong, but that said I like this one even better!

Having been on the stream, I know what the problem was, but I had not noticed until someone pointed it out. But after that, I couldn't *not* see it, so your decision to start afresh was likely a very wise one. The result was worth the extra effort required.

Anybody I need to ban?

Not at the moment. One person we had a "talk" and they understand a couple things now. Another person I don't think has ever shown up on the stream. If they do and they act like a jerk we have a procedure.

I thought the snark level got a little high, but with the delays in the chat on my end, I really did not notice the problem... However, I think that this version does avoid the controversy, such as it might have been. Since this was for the con charity auction, maybe for the better. Still, the comments did get a long way out of line for the desired level for the chat. Some people just do not get the emotional level of the stream, and what is "proper" behavior, I guess. All in all, it was a good stream, and as always, fun to watch you "commiting" art. See you again in a week or so. Wish I had the funds to do Bronykon..[sigh]. 'Axe, aka THE COLONEL

Also it wasn't just in the chat but in whispers, notes on DA and Twitter, etc. that effected my decision.
