In fact, I’ve only ever seen one dry-eyed reactor and I don’t know how they did it! I think this last part of the Chimera arc, more than any other, is what solidified in so many people’s minds HxH’s status as among the greatest anime’s.

When I first watched Hunter x Hunter, I didn't understand why it was considered one of the best anime/manga of all time. When I finished the Ant arc, I understood. Hunter x Hunter is not, as a whole, my favorite anime. I don't even think it's in my top 10. However, I do consider many parts of Hunter x Hunter to be absolute perfections of writing, directing, or twisting shonen codes. For exemple, The end of the ant arc kills me every single time I watch it, and is engraved in my memory for life. What a fucking masterpiece !

She didn’t understand the human heart. And she certainly didn’t understand the impact grief could have on a young boy with a warm heart and no emotional defences. So she drove Gon temporarily out of his mind. Unluckily for her, he turned out to be a very powerful young boy! What saved Meruem was the complete helplessness of Komugi. His strength was met with nothing but Komugi’s sense of her own worthlessness.

Yes, there is a ton of build up. A ton of slow paced episodes around the palace fight. But it all pays off in the end. Setting it all up just to give you the netero fight, gon vs pitou and then finishing it off like this one after another. It's then that you understand why so many people are so hyped about this anime and this arc. The way it all is done is just peak.

Oh, (sorry to be commenting a lot), but yes, I think this is exactly what Hisoka saw in Gon, and it’s why he wanted to wait for him to grow up. If Hisoka saw Gon like this, I think he’d be massively turned on.

To answer the question about the King vs Gon, It is not close, the King at this point is far stronger than Gon is Post transformation. Keep in mind Pitou stated that Gon was equal to the King before his fight with Netero and absorbing Yuupi and Pouf's Nen. The King's power increased by a lot through doing so.

No piece of media has ever made me legitimately cry before. Emotional? Teary eyed? Sure. But never have I had literal tears streaming down my face. That was until, I watched Meruem die in komugi’s arms. That broke something inside me that has never broke before. And I doubt anything else ever will either. I don’t know what it is about that that makes me feel this way, but it gets me every single time I see it.

HxH isn't mentioned as often as the best anime, because I believe to most it isn't their #1. For example I fucking love this anime, but I rank Steins;Gate over it by quite a bit, but it is my num #2 in favourites. I feel like to many it is the same, it is high up, but they recommend other stuff and have another anime as #1. It is really highly rated anime for a reason. It is a long anime so it is hard to recommend and not everyone likes shonen. And if I'd recommend long anime, it would be One Piece (but I'd try to get them to read the manga instead, however anime is okay 2nd option), since it has the deepest character building and so much history.

It makes sense people would enjoy Naruto after HxH, because Kishimoto was very inspired by many aspects of HxH and especially Togashis heart and character in his stories. You will see many reinterpreted ideas, it's fun to pick them up and see how another mind takes those concepts for a spin. -

Dirty? She was the only one that died fulfilling her role. She was deceived, so she was wronged there, but she otherwise died with honor. The others died pathetically with their face in the dirt. We didn't even get a grand battle with pouf.

What kind of Shounen anime kills off villains off-screen? That's so annoying. I like this anime, but the fights SUCK and don't do justice to the characters and their training and all they went through. Not completely dissing on this anime, because I can see why people like it for the characters, but compared to every other shounen I've watched, the fights are beyond terrible. Just my opinion on the matter. Maybe I was expecting too much because I've seen so many other shounen.

You should know the fights in this anime are the most complex and complete in any shonen in history though. And they died "off-screen" because they were not relevant for what was about to happen. You don't try to give everyone in your story the same relevance because it turns into a confusing mess.

the ending of meruem is actual peak fiction, i especially love the end where we see nothing up until Komugi starts touching Meruems body as its basically her blind pov. Shes finally "seeing" his face by sense of touch up until shes holding his hand and calls him by name with no honorific like he wanted. Shit is sad as fuck and will always make me cry but god damn if it aint peak cinema

I feel like the Meruem death scene has to be one of if not straight up the best deaths in Shōnen. It doesn’t need some crazy explosion or anything. It hits so much harder due to it being so different. 131-135 are 5 of my favorite pieces of fiction of all time. The juxtaposition of the “heroes” and “villains” is just incredible.

The cast is definitely in my top 3. Plus it has (imo) one of the best dubs out there and by far the best tournament arc. Just a testament to Togashi being the GOAT for doing both YYH and HxH

I think you have a very strong affinity with dark, gore, horror mixed with unconventional plot, a big/strong cast, well written "villain" (maturer taste), which is why AoT and HxH rank high. This is a relatively smaller group of audience (compared to more "mainstream" groups of audiences, just look at sales for proof). Within this audience, HxH ranks higher than its peers in the shonen genre (eg One Piece, Naruto, Bleach). Titles this group would like include Evangelion, Berserk, Chainsaw man, Oshinoko, ReZero. More obscure titles liked by this group include perhaps Made in Abyss, Parasyte, Grisaia, Psychopass, Tokyo Ghoul season 1, Promised Neverland season 1, Higurashi. The more mainstream groups cannot stomach any of these titles, any titles with pain and discomfort (which elevate the relief and victory, attachment to characters, gravity of the plot, or sometimes keep dishing further despair and sad/bitter sweet ending).

I still remember the first time I saw that last episode, along with the 2nd, 3rd, 5th...and this time. Do you know the similarities of all these times? Same as yours, wet face and all. I have watched a ton of anime, and had a lot more years at it and I don't think any came close to being as sad as this last episode.

i'd really like it if you would take a break from the shonen and watch something completely different: Clannad and Clannad After Story. It's slice of life, but so emotionally powerful that it will reduce you to a crying shell of your former self for weeks afterward. It is quite possibly the greatest slice of life anime every made.

to me, that first bit of episode 134 indicates that things would not have changed that much for the majority of people in the world if the ants had won, humans are already doing that shit very well on their own, so it is less "humans are the real monsters" and more "welcome to the club ant king " type of shituation

so radiation poisoning is an unintended side effect of a nuclear bomb, what makes the "Poor Man's Rose" worst in my opinion is the poison was placed there deliberately and it acts like a virus so not only the people exposed to the bomb will be effected but any one who tries to help the victims afterwords as well

Hmmm, Hxh is a bit different in a sense that it focuses way more on strategic aspects and how different powers clash with eachother rather than just senselessly punching each other. I personally like both approaches, but I can understand not everyone will like this one since it makes fights feel a lot slower paced. Also, I personally watched a ton of different action-shounen anime and for me Hxh is among the best ones, not quite because of the fights themselfs, I don't care as much for that, but because of the unmatched character writting and great themes it covers in Chimera Ant arc.

The body shuts down and so do the primary senses, but he was strong enough to experience blindness first instead of just dying spontaneously. I understand if you LOVED Pouf, but he's an afterthought at that point and had been stalling the plot. It's also fitting that we cut back to such an arrogant being with such little fanfare. Poetic even. I do agree though, Pouf got no fights and that DID suck, but HxH is not an anime famous for its fights. More so, it's characters and ingenuity within those fights. I would recommend to check out clips from the original 90s anime if you want a bit more substance with the early fights, though. Hits different.-

What makes this so heart wrenchingly beautiful, is that at the end, Komugi finally "saw" Meruem (she touched his face and searched for his hand) and she didn't see the tail, the armor nor his color. She saw him as he died, human.

Anger x And x Light is one of the greatest episodes of any anime I have ever watched. The music, the atmosphere, the pure anguish and emotion. To watch a soul as pure as Gon's become something so tainted by grief and revenge...idk this one still hurts to this day
