Wooo was not expecting this to drop today ! Glad you’re liking this arc ! Historia is the goat and your shirt is amazing Nerdy

Thina

im glad that everything is starting to pay off a bit for you guys. only gets better from here

Anna Kyruin

This is one of my favorite episodes, not because it is incredibly well written or animated (there are far better animated and written portions of the show by far), or because of the scouts v anti personnel squad fight, but simply the one moment where Historia has to confront the choice of whether to accept a purpose someone else has designed for her, and how it is edited both visually and with the soundtrack. Gets me every time. :)

Anna Kyruin

I was speaking in relative terms. The writing in this episode is not especially strong when compared to come other episodes in the series that really kill it, so it isn't the reason I like this episode.

Glad they caught the spinal fluid details 👍🏽

Imagine getting triggered because someone likes a specific arc of an anime more than you think they should. "Complete lack of appreciation for the shonen archetype and what you are watching is." lol

Gu

I'm voicing a critique and thoughts based on accumulation of how they discussed each episode and season , Imagine commenting something without making any counter points , way more emotional.

Aaron Wittwer

Yeah. This guy has been obsessed with letting them know this is a shonen for some reason. Like yeah, on basic level some shonen tropes are there, but the reason AoT is so good is because of how it breaks that Shonen mold and becomes something more unique and meaningful than a typical shonen. And you absolutely do not need to know anything about shonen to enjoy this show. Save it for JJK and DemonSlayer.

Gu

@aeron that has not been the case here, most of their critiques are because of lack appreciation or ignorance of what this show is , I am merely voicing my opinion which is shared with a grand portion of the audience and I simply have the ability to articulate it. Aot is pretty shonen season 1 and 2 they think lack of lore = bad storytelling which is an exepectiin of a more regular fantasy story. How and how can they appreciate what aot is excelling in and subverting if I don't even voice the existence of the archetype. They don't like fights without fullness they said this in the end of season 1 , they think that is bad storytelling but that's not the case in a shonen where one dimensional epic fights are appreciated I simply am bringing to light to deter with popularizing nerdys critiques as if some validity that they don't have. I'm also saying this preemptively in the anticipation of RTS where nerdy is gonna be " this entire arc isnt good because I don't know their motivations yet" .

Aaron Wittwer

Keep speaking your mind, but even if AoT was a conventional shonen, that's not a justification for poor storytelling or not divulging character motivations. I'm not saying AoT has bad storytelling, but the reason they aren't divulging character motivations has nothing to do with it trying to pay tribute to shonen tropes. I honestly doubt Isayama could give a shit about standard shonen manga storytelling. Telling them they should appreciate what they perceive as bad storytelling more because the shonen genre is rife with bad storytelling, isn't really a good argument. Especially considering, in most shonen, the characters' motivations are excruciatingly straightforward and clear. The only reason you don't understand some of the characters motivations in AoT is because the world is a mystery to everyone in the show at this point. And the show clearly wants the audience to not get too far ahead of the character as they solve that mystery. Nothing to do with shonen tropes.

KratosRager

They’re pretty new to anime. I don’t think they really give a shit about archetypes.

Dirt Birb

There were no critiques in your comment, just complaints that they don't get every little nuance like you do. "I am merely voicing my opinion which is shared with a grand portion of the audience and I simply have the ability to articulate it." Talk about a bloated ego. I didnt come here to make a counter point btw, just to highlight your absurdity.

Stefan

The fact that Rod was able to Titan up after licking the Titan fluid, was because Kenny cut his tongue/mouth prior.

josh

I'm just going to say this now in case you're watching these far in advance. Make sure you don't skip the after credit scene in episode 56.

Gu

@aoren I started aot in 2014 I have the perspective of not knowing the greater plot for years, and appreciated it for what it was prior ,secondly all art is subjective , what is important is what kind of philosophy the work it trying to adhere to , nothing is objectively bad storytelling at all depends on what norms of storytelling are, and if that is the main showcase for that particular arc,in this case aot takes many anime trends in 2009-2013 in mind with it's design . When did I say they are supposed to be by bogging character motivations? Season 1 you're supposed to hate the Titans season 2 you're supposed to dislike reiner and berthold. But they are going " ok it has a greater plot so I might understand their site later considering this show has four seasons" Also there's a reason why story is structured the way it is , it's published in a shonen magazine so a certain degree of simplicity is expected in a certain degree of action to meet their battle quotas most likely otherwise the show doesn't succeed and get another season. Again my problem is there a rating and lower because they don't understand antagonist motivations and see that as a flaw.

Gu

@Dirt bird once again no substance your first comment was an ad hominem. I laid out my point about the shonen archetype imagine bullying someone from making a valid point and not making any point yourself. Now you edited :How can you conclude absurdity if you don't actually engage with the substance of what I laid out just because you like someone does not mean it's okay to belittle others with honest opinions, "bloated ego" I'm merely responding with the same manner and behavior nerdys past reactions have provoked. If you want to blame me for speaking brazingly once.

Aaron Wittwer

Honestly man, I really can't even parse what you are trying to say at this point so I'm gonna stop responding.

Ferenczi Laurentiu

Based on what little information she had, i really thought Hystoria would hate Eren from what his father did. Especially since she was shown to drastically change after losing Ymir. It was a pleasant surprise that she realised something is not right with the royal family and gave her dad the middle finger 🤘

Anna Kyruin

I'm just going to say this now in case you're watching these far in advance. It is an entirely valid choice to skip the after credit scene in episode 56 and watch it after season 3. I've seen reactors do both. Neither is better. It's the same as the debate over when to watch Ilse's Notebook. It's a personal preference thing you can't know which you would have preferred until after. I would have preferred to watch the after credits scene after season 3 myself, but to each their own. *shrug*

josh

I think you're getting confused about which episode I'm talking about. Look up episode 56 of Attack on Titan. It's actually important that they watch it

josh

I'd suggest you delete this comment so they don't see it and get confused because it's actually really important they don't miss it, they'd be missing part of the story

Peak

If nerdy night sees this. PLEASE LISTEN TO JOSH, Watch the post credit for 56 or S3 EP12 there is no reason to skip it all reactors watch it and I promise it is 100% better to see it viewing wise and reactor wise
