I spent as much time as I could in the bridge during my last underway.  I miss that feeling of the sea rolling the sub slowly as you cut through the water.

I can almost see the cold arctic wind watering my eyes and the murky waves watering my face. But when the alternative is to live like sardines in a can that must feel pretty good.

I've always wondered, after seeing several photos of subs on the surface, what roles those guys have. Are most/all of them lookouts, or are they actually navigating/commanding the sub from up there as well?
