Mecha Culture Fest

The Japanese school year is filled with many events and ceremonies. Sports day has the kids competing in physical group based challenges. Everyone takes it very seriously, injuries add up throughout the day and tears are shed among the winners and losers. There is also a music festival where every class performs a choir song. The talent pool is so deep every class has at least one student who is responsible for the piano accompaniment, and one for the conducting. The open house arts and crafts day gives the students a chance to show off their projects from club activities. And the list goes on and on. It seems there is always a special day on the horizon busy bodies are preparing for.

In the Mondo universe we have Mecha Culture Fest! A day where staff and students get to learn about mecha with real displays and demonstrations. The mechs are owned by staff, some are student projects, and some of the privileged students can bring their own mechs for show and tell. It may seem far-fetched but it's quite common for civilians to own mechs. I mean, you never know when a kaiju will come along.

I really wanted to capture the excitement of the major school events with this piece. At the time, the events were kind of a pain to endure, especially when it's the forth or fifth time you've experienced it. Some of the events would even require us to come to school on a Saturday, which is borderline criminal in my book. However, looking back I miss the excitement, movement, and emotions of these special days.
