I agree with you completely. As you can see, others don't agree. In fact a lot of the fandom have season 6 as their favourite. But it's right down the bottom of my list for exactly the reasons you say, it falls a bit flat. The characters are great, the actors are great but it's just not done well for me. I've said this before in the comments, the biggest issue is that the season is in the wrong order. You have an epic opening two episodes, then a couple of decent filler episodes and then you have the massive Demon's Run episode where you find out who River really is. That episode feels like a season finale for me but it's half way through the season. And then after that you have a whole bunch of underpar filler episodes, then you have the episode Closing Time which is great and brings everything back around to this finale but because they just couldn't make this finale as epic as the River reveal episode it just doesn't feel as exciting and epic as it should feel. And that makes the whole season feel a bit meh. And also while I get what they were going for using the Teselector robot to take the place of The Doctor on the beach, it does feel like such a cop out considering the whole season has been about The Doctor dying. And, as many people already know and going against 99% of Doctor Who fans, I'm just not a fan of River at all. I find her irritating, I don't like her relationship with The Doctor and I spend most of this season wishing she'd just go away to be totally honest. 😂 But as I've said to you, season 7 is SO SO much better. Especially the second half of the season. So far you've agreed with most of my opinions about this show which is unusal for us lol so hopefully that continues and you enjoy next season. I'm quietly confident haha. Oh and the phone call The Doctor got was a little thing for fans of Classic Who in the 1980s. Brigadier Gordon Alistair Lethbridge Stewart was a long time friend and companion of The Doctor for a long time back in the classic episodes. That's why that phone call was significant. You're also going to want to remember this info and the surname Lethbridge Stewart for season 7. This is important. Looking forward the Christmas special. It's a good one. 😊
