Patreon throwing a wrench into the proceedings, but I'm glad you were finally able to get this working :). So, who do you think is uglier: the witches in this episode or the vampires and demons in Buffy? 🤣🤣🤣. 'To be or not to be.' 'You should write that down.' 'It's a bit pretentious.' 🤣🤣🤣 Love the banter between the Doctor and Shakespeare! Anyways, did you know that Romeo and Juliet is based on a myth called Pyramus and Thisbe? You should read it. It's short and to the point, and the characters are much less insufferable than the characters in Romeo and Juliet. Anyways, I've always loved that Shakespeare was able to figure out that the Doctor is an alien and that Martha is from the future. It was always weird to me that the Doctor didn't ask Martha to change her clothes to something more reminiscent of the time they were in. But oh well. I definitely like season 3 more than the first 2 seasons. You'll see more familiar faces this season, but I won't say who...

I was waiting for your reaction to the witches, your impressions of the one with the big chin cracked me up. I'm glad you haven't listened to the few naysayers, this show is meant to be laughed at and these creatures are meant to be ridiculous. Those witches really were gross lol. 😂 I agree with what you said about the writing, it's getting better all the time. I love how they kept dropping famous Shakespeare quotes in there. And that line about the 57 academics is genius, you laughed so maybe you understood that reference, but if not basically 57 people who have spent their lives researching Shakespeare believe that he was bisexual and that some of his love sonnets were written for a man. So Shakespeare flirting with The Doctor is what prompted that line. I loved that, SO clever. 👌 I also enjoyed the Harry Potter references, although the "good old JK" line hasn't aged well for obvious reasons. But I still like it in the context of the episode. You just have to remember this aired in 2008. And the ending with Queen Elizabeth the 1st hating The Doctor is there for a reason. They come back to that. But not until the end of season 7, so you just have to try and remember this if you can. But if not we'll all remind you at the time anyway. I look forward to the next episode. A couple of familiar characters reappear and it's a beautiful story. 😊

I love it! The first time I watched the episode, I thought I misheard it, though 🤣🤣🤣

Great reaction. I knew you'd find this one fun, and I 100% knew your reaction to the witches ahead of time 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Season 3 is mostly a really strong season. And if you can believe it, season 4 is even stronger. Oh the 7th Harry Potter is the deathly hallows, you were right. For context though, this episode came out before book 7 was written. Russel T Davies likes to drop in a few pop culture references, or current affairs in here and there, although sometimes they don't age well.

I agree about season 3, strong season. But I'm not a massive season 4 fan. I know how controversial that is lol but there are quite a few episodes that I'm not keen on. It's in the bottom half of my season order. But I think Travis will love it like you and most other fans do, I hope so anyway. 🙂

Oh the second half of season 4 to me is one of the strongest run of episodes in the entire series. I think only season 9 can beat it lol. But that's what I love about this show is everyone has their own personal favourites

Siobhan Linehan

Very true. I do love season 9 but my favourite is season 8 closely followed by season 5.

Hearing of your fondness for historically inspired shows, I think you might enjoy 'Shakespeare in Love'. Perhaps for June...

Honestly I think you would enjoy the companion show Torchwood that goes along with doctor who! It has a few episodes where the doctor plays a huge role but otherwise is it’s own show! jack harkness is the main character in the show torchwood!

BtsOT79798

It’s even funnier the “expeliarmus!” Line from Martha and Shakespeare because the doctors actor was in Harry Potter (he played Barty crouch Jr!)

You said you didn’t know what ‘sectioned’ meant - it refers to powers that certain healthcare professionals have under the mental health act to keep you in hospital if you are deemed a risk to yourself or others - ie if she went back home and told people she met Shakespeare they’d think she was crazy. Love watching all of these I’m treating it as an excuse to rewatch all these episodes from my childhood. Can’t believe this was almost 20 years ago now!
