Cat King

"How do they continue this for so many more years if she already knows about the curse?" 😂 oh man I can't wait for you to season two now. They have fantastic writers and lots of drugs that's how 🤘 Idk if you caught it but right after Emma killed the dragon you see snow whites glass coffin. Which we saw when Henry was stuck in the tunnels. So this is probably the secret Regina was trying to keep buried from everyone in that episode when she didn't want people snooping down around that area.

First and foremost... Thank you, Travis, so very much for all of your wonderful and entertaining reactions for the entire first season of my all time favorite show... Once Upon a Time!! I have truly loved watching you travel down this magical journey so far, and I cannot wait for you to get into season two!!! So, thank you once again very much, dear friend!! A Land Without Magic... Wow! I absolutely love, love, love this episode! So beautiful, powerful, and full of emotion, which is why this episode, along with An Apple Red As Blood, is most definitely among some of my favorites from this season. So, thank you very much for your reaction for it! I'm so happy you loved season one!! And this two part finale in particular, so much too! And I am so happy that you're excited for season two!! I can't wait!!! :) As for my thoughts on how Emma comes to remember everything and to believe in magic... Emma didn't believe Henry about the curse from the beginning, because as she states in the Pilot and in the second episode... The Thing You Love Most, that no sane person would believe in such fairytales. It's impossible to fathom because to us in our world, fairytales are only fictional stories we were told as children. And after all the pain Emma has been through in her life, especially after never being adopted and believing her whole life that everyone who should have loved her, or who should have cared for her all, had abandoned her, she didn't have any hope or the will to believe in something as wonderful and as crazy as her family and loved ones coming from a book filled with fairytales. On top of all that, even after all the unusual things proved that there is more about these people she has come to care about and even fear, that there is something more to Storybrooke than she could possibly believe, she has come to love Henry so much that all she wanted is to protect him, and take him away from the craziness. Especially when August reveals to her the truth in The Stranger. She couldn't see the true magic right in front of her because she didn't want to believe. She didn't want anyone but Henry to need her to save them. Now, with all of this being said... Yes, Emma has touched the book before this episode. On multiple occasions too. But because she didn't believe, and didn't want to believe, nothing happened. However, because when Henry ate the poisoned apple turnover that Regina made for Emma, Whale kept tearing down any possible idea Emma could come up with to explain how and why he collapsed. And Emma became so desperate to find a way to save him, she was willing to believe in anything. And in this moment that she touched the book, a part of herself suddenly opened up to the possibility to believe that magic was real like Henry kept pleading with her to believe. A tinge of hope opened up within her that magic could save him. This is why memories from her birth and of magic, and of her parents truly being Snow White and Prince Charming, all suddenly came flooding into her mind. And honestly... For me I absolutely love how this came to pass. It's quite a powerful moment for Emma, and one of the most powerful moments throughout this season, because Emma has finally become the Savior she was destined to become. I absolutely love it!!! And then... The moment Emma comes to believe, Regina comes running into the room. And because Emma now believes, even if she's struggling to accept what she now believes in, Emma realizes that what Henry has been saying about Regina being the Evil Queen is true and she immediately grabs hold of Regina and pulls her into the supply closet in anger, and demands to know the truth about what she's done to Henry, knowing that the poison apple was actually meant for her and never for him. I really love this moment too. And while we see throughout the season that Regina does truly love Henry, this is really the first time we really see the real emotion in her eyes behind the truth. In the past... We've seen Regina be willing to hurt Henry emotionally, like we see back in the second episode... The Thing You Love Most, when she makes sure that Emma comes to her office to talk and to let slip that Henry's crazy for believing in such nonsense right in front of him. But I do love this scene between Emma and Regina as they fight upon Emma seeing the truth. I also love how Regina states that while the magic of the poisoned apple works as it does in the magical world, here in a land without magic, it is unpredictable. In regards to how the poisoned apple works on Henry, at least as far as how I see it to be... I believe it does to him just as the poisoned apple does to Snow White shown in An Apple Red As Blood. It puts Henry into a death like sleep, which because no one else remembers their true lives, everyone believes Henry has died. And when Henry coded, he really was slowly dying because they are in a Land Without Magic. Therefore, the poison had begun to kill him... just more slowly than what normal poison would, rather than simply keeping him in his death like sleep forever, as it would have done to Snow had Charming not given her True Love's Kiss too. It would have only been a matter of time before death took Henry, were it not for Emma giving Henry True Love's Kiss. I also love the overall backstory with Charming being saved from the Evil Queen's knights by Graham, whom I was absolutely thrilled to see they were able to get back for a brief appearance in this episode despite his busy filming schedule! I love that Graham saves Charming, in the hope that he could save Snow and together they would be able to finally defeat the Evil Queen. As for Charming's fight against Rumplestiltskin in the Infinite Forest, the very forest that appeared once already back in the ninth episode... True North, which had been where Regina cast Hansel and Gretel and their father into... It's amazing and so much fun to watch. Especially when Rumple constantly teases Charming, knowing he could easily kill the Prince if he wanted to. And I love that we learn more about why Rumple wants to see Snow White and Prince Charming come together too. We know from a previous episode... The Return, that Rumple helped Regina to cast the dark curse so that it could bring them all to a Land Without Magic, so that he could one day find his son. However, so long as the curse is over them, Rumple is unable to leave Storybrooke to find his son, so he also needed a Savior to one day come to town so she could break the curse. And because Snow White and Prince Charming are True Love's, he knew one day their unborn child would be the one destined to become the Savior, and that no one else could do so except for her. This is why Rumple was so desperate to know Emma's name and everything he could about her before she was ever born. Because him remembering the truth so he could guide Emma throughout the season to where he needed her to be, his life, and getting back to his son, all depended solely on her. Rumple orchestrated everything so that Emma would arrive to this point and time, as he needed her to. He even placed a drop of the True Love's potion onto the parchment the curse is written on in order to make it so that a Savior had the power to break the curse. Very wise, that Rumpelstiltskin. And now, aside from the scenes when Emma breaks the curse with True Love's Kiss and she saves Henry, and Emma earlier coming to believe... One more of my favorite moments in this episode is the scene between Emma and August. This is most definitely one of the most heart wrenching moments throughout this episode. It's just so sad, seeing August lying there as he's slowly dying upon turning back into wood. But I also love how August at least sees right away that Emma finally does believe because she can see the wood he's becoming. While Emma isn't in time to save him from turning back into a puppet made of wood, who is no longer alive because they are in a Land Without Magic... I love that Emma promises him that she will try to help him and everyone else. And now that magic is being brought to Storybrooke... maybe there's hope for August yet. :) I also really love the dragon fight with Emma and Maleficent in her dragon form, and I love how it parallels perfectly with Charming's fight against her in the past storyline. It seems like an odd choice for Rumpelstiltskin to have Charming hide the True Love's potion inside the literal belly of the beast. However, for me I think it's brilliant upon seeing how the scenes with Emma and Charming fighting Maleficent play out. I enjoy them a lot. And I love Emma's facial expressions while she's fighting the dragon too. She's shocked and terrified, seeing as she only came to believe in magic minutes earlier. And I love how Emma at last kills Maleficent in her dragon form by throwing her father's sword directly at her chest as she's about to breathe fire. This is a nod to Disney's, Sleeping Beauty, as we see Prince Phillip in the movie kill Maleficent in her dragon form by throwing his enchanted sword into her chest. Once again, this shows just how powerful the Savior is. Beautifully done. :) As for Maleficent being brought into a Land Without Magic in her dragon form with no magic existing... Regina states to Jefferson upon using her few remaining magical trinkets to get his hat to open up a portal, that very little magic does exist within this world because she had brought these trinkets over from the Enchanted Forest with her in the curse. When the curse fell over them all and brought them into our world, Maleficent was in her dragon form and therefore, the curse brought her here to Storybrooke and trapped her in her dragon form, then left her locked away within the mines beneath the town until Regina, or anyone might come to see her. Maleficent has remained trapped within the mines all along. It isn't like she's ever walked around the streets of their town before. The curse simply kept her imprisoned. I hope this makes sense. Next... I love, love, love seeing the curse become broken, and seeing everyone suddenly remember who they truly are, especially when we see Snow and Charming come together in the end upon finding one another again as their true selves. This is another of my favorite moments. I love them calling one another Snow and Charming instead of Mary Margaret and David, as well as their love theme playing in the background. And the kiss they share... Absolutely beautiful! They definitely have some things to talk about and problems to work through, but I think they both can understand why things happened as they did, given they were cursed. As for the flashback scene we see of Snow and Charming sharing their first True Love's Kiss back in the Pilot... This season has come full circle. I absolutely love the nod back to the Pilot and seeing this scene again as a way to remind us of how True Love's Kiss is the most powerful magic of all as Rumplestiltskin and Mr. Gold says more than once in this episode, to both Charming and to Emma. I also love the expansion from this beautiful scene, where Charming proposes to Snow and gives her his mother's ring, then they state that they plan to take back their kingdom and to bring down the Evil Queen and King George, as they will do everything from that point onward... together. Beautiful!!! I love how while everyone is busy in the hospital with trying to save Henry, that Jefferson slips through them and sneaks down into the psych ward to free Belle, and that he tells her to find Gold so she can tell him that Regina was the one responsible for Rumple believing she was dead all these years. Nothing did come of this right away, but this isn't the end of this storyline. I like that Jefferson is unable to kill Regina for her constant betrayals because in spite of his anger and hatred towards Regina, he is still a good man deep down, and therefore he can't in good conscience kill her outright himself. However, I love how he was smart enough to know how to find someone who will be more than happy to punish Regina for him, as wrong as it is. It's a brilliant set up for all that's to come! :) As is Rumple going to the well, which August explained about to Emma back in another previous episode... What Happened to Frederick?. That the waters within this well are connected to Lake Nostos, where the siren attacked Charming. And now... Gold has used the magic from the well's waters below, as well as the True Love potion he made from Snow's and Charming's hairs, to bring magic to Storybrooke. Because "magic is power", even if all magic does come with a price. And Gold/Rumplestiltskin lusts for power. He just can't help himself. And lastly... The moment when Emma gives Henry True Love's Kiss as his mother, saving Henry as well as breaking the curse... Phenomenal and beautiful in every way! Heartbreaking too. I cry every time I watch this episode, especially for scenes as powerful as this one, that I love, love, love so much. It's definitely another of my overall favorite scenes too. What an amazing set up for season two, and I cannot wait for you to continue watching, Travis!!! Overall... Such a beautiful and fantastic two part finale!! And I am so grateful to you for continuing to watch this show for me and all of us here on Patreon who love this show like I do, especially as often as you're watching these episodes for us. Truly. So, thank you again, dear friend! Until your next reaction for season two's premiere episode!!! Now... In regards to my absolute favorite characters we've been introduced to so far throughout all of season one... I really love Snow White and Prince Charming, as well as Regina/the Evil Queen, Mr. Gold/Rumplestiltskin, and Henry too. I also really love Jefferson/the Mad Hatter, Archie/Jiminy Cricket, August W. Booth/Pinocchio, Grumpy, Red Riding Hood/Ruby, Granny, Graham, Maleficent, Belle, the Blue Fairy, and more... However, my all time favorite character after all of season one, is Emma Swan. I just absolutely and truly love her overall character as the Savior. I love her strength and convictions, even when she is in her weakest moments. And Jennifer Morrison is phenomenal! I love her overall storyline and that she is the Savior. She's just incredible! Especially in this season finale... Emma shines! And of course, Lana Parrilla as Regina and Robert Carlyle as Gold are absolutely sensational actors!!! And it's beautiful seeing Snow's and Charming's love story grow and shine onscreen, especially knowing that their love story is very real because their actors are very much in love for real. And I love both Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas as Snow White and Prince Charming! They're the perfect epitome of love, and it's a beautiful love story. :) And as for my absolute favorite episodes throughout all of season one... Pilot, Snow Falls, That Still Small Voice, The Shepherd, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, Red Handed, Heart of Darkness, Hat Trick, The Return, The Stranger, An Apple Red As Blood, and A Land Without Magic. I absolutely love every episode! And it's really hard to just choose a few favorites. I have a lot of favorites in every season. However, here in season one, these episodes just slightly stand out to me above the rest. I would love to know which episodes are your favorites, Travis? And anyone else who wishes to share with me which episodes are your favorites as well. Please... please let me know! Thank you very much once more, my dear friend! :) Sincerely, Heidi

Yas one of my favorite characters is finally out of the cell. I love Belle so much

Ilsuk Yang

Ah yes, the return of the sheriff/hunstman. Completely forgot about that, lol (same with Jefferson being in this episode; I swear I've seen this show before lol)! I'm glad you got to see your hotness again, Travis! Very good finale with the twist being true love between mother and son instead of the more traditional romantic true love, like they showed in a previous part of the episode with Snow and Charming. Belle being released by Jefferson is also good fun and the ending with Rumple bringing back magic is great. As to your question at the end (which was the same question I had the first time I saw this), you'll just have to wait until season 2 to find out ;)

Miguelito

The pure shock on your face about Henry 🤣🤣 can’t wait for season 2!

Ilsuk Yang

The question is, will Travis think that character is hotter than the sheriff/hunstman and/or Regina?

Olivia Grace Miller

cant wait until season 2 reaction i have a feeling that there will be a new hotty for you in that season and from my understanding some of the actors and actress where thinking that the trying to get Emma to believe story line was going to be the whole show not just 1 season but the show only get better from here my personal fav being season 3

this also originally aired on mother's day. so Emma ending the curse with true loves kiss was really sweet.

Ilsuk Yang

I completely forgot this aired on Mother's Day (I swear I've seen this show before)!

I have a lot of random useless information that is crammed in this head of mine so every once in a while something comes out of it. haha

Angelina Sargent

So you mentioned something that she suddenly has memories when she touched the book and that's not entirely what that was... she's not remembering anything. She's just reliving the stories she has heard from this book. It's more so what you said before you said she had her memories. It was the possibility of the stories being true. I'm a little disappointed about your August comment. I don't know why you would say that to someone watching the show for the first time. I get you love this show but comments like this shouldn't be included in your novels regardless of how excited you are. Otherwise great recap that definitely took you over an hour to write. Lol where are you getting that kind of time woman?!

Lolly Silva

When are you going to start season 2? So I'm excited to watch

Alondra Dominique

While watching the finale with you, i just realized that the clock says 8:15 when the curse was broken
