I always meant to rewatch grey's anatomy in full. It seems right to do it this way.

This episode wrecks me. Bailey with the spelling kid, Aunt Jackie dying and givie her daughter advice (Laurie Metcalf is a phenomenal actress) and Meredith hearing from her half sister how great a dad her father was. And George being kind to Meredith. 😭

Such a good episode but I’m still going McSteamy withdrawals!!!

2x22 maybe it's a good luck episode hahaha Mer's family is very complicated, that is for suresies. I can't imagine having siblings (biological in some way) really so I cannot judge anyone for how they act in these situations

I think Meredith is supposed to be about 26-27 here, loving the reactions can't wait for more!

Breadcrumbs

You'll learn quickly that there's no consistent timeline. For example (I'm fairly certain this isn't a spoiler), seasons 1-3 take place over 1 calendar year, which is frankly unbelievable when you think about everything that happens lol. To answer your question about Meredith's age, she is approximately 30 as an intern due to context clues you learn later about how old she was when her parents got divorced, and the ages of a couple characters you meet later in the series. In the original script for the pilot episode, there is a character description that lists Meredith's age as "32", but it is never once mentioned onscreen, and 30 fits better in regards to context you gain later, as previously mentioned. Unfortunately, many of the ages of characters on this show are retconned as often as the writers see fit, in order to fill in gaping plot holes they create instead of making sure there is plot continuity. It's a massive annoyance to all fans; the Grey's universe exists in a black hole/space-time continuum-paradox where nothing makes sense, and anything (and everything) can/will happen at some point. It's best to just enjoy the ride!

Aww I proposed to my husband too, next month we celebrate 17 years together!

And this is why I hate Thacher. Be a bad father to your first child, then try again to be a better father with a whole new family. Without ever making an effort to be a better father to your first child. I have no patience for that and it happens all the time. He’s especially bad because he knew how cold and rejecting Ellis was and he didn’t fight to stay in Meredith’s life. When Susan says Ellis wouldn’t let him see Meredith I always scream at the screen ‘he was her father with legal rights and emotional responsibilities!’ I really hate Thacher.

"That's why I'm the CHIEF..." Hahahaa! I love that so much.

I go back and forth with Alex. I think he was spot on with the mom in this episode. She needed to be honest with her daughter, or I think Alex would be right - her daughter would be so mad and hurt to know that her mom knew she had little time left and didn't tell her so that she could appreciate the time they had left and spend as much quality time with her as possible. I'm so glad she listened to Alex and had that conversation with her daughter. Laurie Metcalf ("Aunt Jackie" from Roseanne) played that role so beautifully. On the other hand, I think Alex was dead wrong to be so brutally honest with Denny. To tell him basically that he's a walking corpse and will probably die -- to tell him that RIGHT BEFORE a critical surgery -- I'm with Izzy on that one. Alex was way out of line. Maybe Denny needs to consider that information and be more careful about his relationship with Izzy, yes. However, you don't say stuff like that right before surgery when the patient needs to be optimistic. They need to be able to go into the surgery believing things could go well, not already assume it's not going to work or that there's no point to any of it. I really do think the brain needs to have hope in a case like that. Which is why I think Alex is right to be honest in some cases, but not always - he needs to learn which situations require such brutal honesty and which ones need a more delicate touch.

I agree Thatcher is a terrible dad who took the easy way out with Meredith and Ellis. But Ellis was equally terrible. She didn't respect Thatcher, she was the most absent spouse and cheated on him for years. I wonder why they were even together in the first place.

Kelly Terry

Laurie Metcalf (aunt Jackie) and Jeff Perry (thatcher) used to be married in real life and his current wife is the casting director for all of shonda rhimes shows. They also have a daughter who is an actress and plays Sheldon’s mom on Young Sheldon the role her mother played on the Big Bang theory

Tammy Miller

I can’t get enough of this show!

I said a while back that Denny Duquette is my favorite Jeffrey Dean Morgan role, this episode shows you why the banter between him and Izzy so cute.

Classic Alex. And that was good of George to protect Meredith, but I think Thatcher knew Meredith was right around the corner, hiding. You can see that when he keeps looking that way. Thatcher should have fought to stay in Meredith's life, but we have seen how Ellis is. She's domineering, and agressive, and self-centered at times. A brilliant surgeon, but sometimes cold. It's no excuse for Thatcher to have given up on Meredith, but I can understand a little of why he was afraid to pursue legal rights. He admitted he's a coward, so there is that. Yes, that's Jackie (Laurie Metcalf) from Rosanne. Love her in everything she does. Everything. You loved Mark (and I understand, totally) but I understand why Izzy is obsessed with Denny . He's adorable. He's my Mark.

Which is why it doesn't make any sense that he didn't try to petition for custody and alimony given their respective positions and work schedules.
