We finally made it to the Sebastian Stan(Bucky Barnes in the MCU)episode!!! 😊 This is one of the ones that I've been looking forward to. He is so perfect as The Mad Hatter/Jefferson. Fun Fact: Sebastian Stan and Jennifer Morrison(Emma) dated for about a year after meeting on this show.

Hat Trick- Sebastian Stan is phenomenal as the Mad Hatter!! Just sayin'. :) Thank you so much for another fantastic reaction for yet another fabulous episode of Once Upon a Time, Travis! I love this episode, because I absolutely love seeing how the Mad Hatter becomes mad. And seeing that he is mad in both worlds. Once Upon a Time also appears to combine his characters from the original stories of Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, written by Lewis Carroll, and from both the Tim Burton film versions of Alice and Wonderland, taking his darker side from these films to create Jefferson. Which is absolutely brilliant!! So, yes... The actor who plays Jefferson, or the Mad Hatter, is indeed played by actor, Sebastian Stan. Known for playing Captain America's best friend, Bucky in the Captain America and Avengers movies. His role and appearances here in Once Upon a Time occurred just before the Avengers movies, during the filming of the first Captain America movie. I absolutely love Jefferson/Mad Hatter so much, and he's one of my favorite characters throughout all of Once Upon a Time. Sebastian Stan's acting throughout this episode, is really, really phenomenal. And thanks to his acting alone, Hat Trick is definitely another one of my favorite episodes for this season. Sebastian Stan after all, is one of my all time favorite actors. :) There are a few annoyances I have within this episode, among all the good it contains, but overall... Hat Trick is just fantastic!! First, regarding one of my annoyances that bothers me the least... The CGI within the Wonderland storyline isn't that great. I normally don't fault this show in the slightest for any bad special effects, or even really notice if the effects are bad if they are. Not most of the time. However, there are a few exceptions, when I can't ignore the bad CGI. The design of Wonderland is one of these rare exceptions. It just looks a little too cartoony. If it was drawn or designed to look more like a real world, with less special effects, then Wonderland's overall design would be much better. Nonetheless... I do love the colors and seeing how certain aspects such as the mushrooms, the grass, the labyrinth, etc... are all enlarged and made big to show the magic of Wonderland. Next... I am also not too big a fan of Mary Margaret choosing to escape from jail in the first place, aside from her doing so leading up to the beautiful moment between her and Emma in the end, which I will get back to in a bit... But I do understand why Mary Margaret chooses to escape. She's afraid. It's just a little disappointing that she couldn't have had enough faith in Emma from the beginning to help her after Emma pours out her heart in the ending of the previous episode when she pleads with Mary Margaret to trust in her. And I'm also not a fan of Jefferson having his head cut off upon orders from the Queen of Hearts, and him not dying. Only because of how this scene and its special effects are done. Although, once again I understand the reasons for the idea to do this, since the Queen of Hearts is known to order her soldiers to cut off the heads of her enemies in the fairytale. So, I really appreciate the nod to Alice in Wonderland. However, I would like this idea more were it done a little differently. I just feel like this scene was strangely done, and could have been done better. But these are little nitpicks of mine. Nitpicks that thankfully don't really hinder my love for this incredible episode. And now... I can't help but feel the serial killer vibe from Jefferson within the present day storyline, which is amazing under these circumstances! It makes sense because Jefferson is the Mad Hatter and so seeing him going mad from having conflicting memories in his head from both lives would absolutely make him act as he does, and make him feel so desperate to act like he does here in Storybrooke. And I love how Sebastian Stan plays the madness that is the Mad Hatter. I really do enjoy the overall backstory between Jefferson and Regina, that includes Jefferson's daughter Grace, and Regina's father Henry Sr. as a whole despite its flaws. And I especially love that this is the first episode in which we get to see a new realm aside from just Storybrooke and the Enchanted Forest. The overall design of Wonderland is interesting, as we see giant mushrooms, giant strands of grass, the smoking Caterpillar, and an extravagant maze, all from the Alice and Wonderland fairytale. I especially like the design of the labyrinth, in which its walls are made of the plants that have been enchanted to pull all those that get too close to it, inside of it. Maybe the CGI is a little bad, but the creators did the best they could with the means they were given to create such a world. So, I can appreciate their hard work in creating this new and beautiful world, nonetheless. I really love how Regina comes to Jefferson seeking help from him to get to Wonderland, for reasons yet revealed to us at this point aside from her wishing to get back something taken from her. And when he refuses for Grace's sake, I like how Regina manipulates him into later taking back his refusal to help her, by using his love for his daughter against him as she makes him feel weak for being unable to give Grace the stuffed bunny she likes from the market. It's very cruel of Regina to do, and it's sad. But I like it. Nonetheless... Her plan works, and Jefferson later returns to Regina to accept her request for his help so he can make sure that his daughter will want for nothing. I absolutely love the idea for the Mad Hatter travelling from realm to realm through the magic of his hat, and I love the design of the inside of his hat that shows the many doorways to all the infinite realms and worlds he spoke of to Emma. In Once Upon a Time, Jefferson... or the Mad Hatter, is known to be a portal jumper, or traveler from land to land, as is revealed about him within this episode. Absolutely brilliant! Fortunately... Regina is successful in retrieving the box we discover later contains her father, who had been shrunk down to the size of an ant, and with the magic from a piece of a mushroom, Henry Sr. grows back to normal size. In case you don't recall this detail from the story of Alice in Wonderland, there are mushrooms and cakes which allow a person to shrink or grow when eaten, as well as its drinks too. I love that this detail is brought into this episode, given that it is such an Alice in Wonderland driven story. Unfortunately for Jefferson, the magic and rules of his hat makes it so he cannot enter the portal his hat opens once Regina plants his feet into the ground, then runs through the portal along with her father. I also love this about the hat as well. It makes for Jefferson's storyline and how he's the one in control of the powers of the hat that much more intriguing. And I love the designs of his hats and the inside of Jefferson's hat's portal, where we see the doorways to all magical and non magical worlds that are a part of the fairytale realms. In regards to when this backstory takes place within the timeline... It's a couple of years before Regina casts her curse that brings everyone to Storybrooke. This is back when Regina shows she truly loves her father, which is the reason why it's his heart she must crush in order to enact the dark curse. If she didn't love him, then she wouldn't have succeeded. And this makes their story and her father's death that much sadder. Regina is taking back her father, who had been shrunken down to a tiny size and imprisoned inside one of the heart boxes by the Queen of Hearts. As for the present storyline with all that's going on between Emma, Mary Margaret, and Jefferson... I really love it overall, aside from the few nitpicks I've already mentioned. I like how Jefferson appears to Emma in the beginning by pretending to have been hit by her car and knocked off the road, then accepts her offer to drive him home, as we have yet to know his true motives. Then, Jefferson drugs Emma, and later it is discovered that Mary Margaret is also there, after she had already been kidnapped by Jefferson too. What I love most about this episode, and my favorite scene throughout it... I especially love Jefferson's dialogue to Emma throughout the present day storyline, as he reveals that remembering both lives is his curse... How Regina has cursed him to remember, unlike everyone else due to the fact that she knew it would be the most painful kind of curse imaginable for him. Because he is known to have gone mad in Wonderland, and therefore Regina has cruelly cursed him with two conflicting lives in his head in order to help keep him mad. Evil, she is indeed. And I absolutely love how his curse, or punishment upon coming over into Storybrooke within the Evil Queen's dark curse, is remembering everything from his former life with his daughter. Being so close to her and yet so far away because she doesn't remember who she really is, or who he is. I love how Jefferson states to Emma that having all knowledge and yet being unable to do anything to change it, is maddening. A big clue to him being the Mad Hatter. And this whole scene is why I first started to really love Sebastian Stan as an actor. And I've grown to love him even more ever since, in many of his movies. And I absolutely love how Jefferson explains to Emma how these fairytales that are their stories, are as real as the stories told about the Civil War in our history books. How every story comes from somewhere, and how there are numerous worlds in existence. Some with magic, some without, and some that need magic like Storybrooke. I really love how Jefferson tries everything to convince Emma of the truth and that she has to believe in magic, so he can get her to help him make one of his hats open a portal for him. However, Emma only tells Jefferson what he wants to hear, and when his guard is down once he turns his back on her, Emma immediately takes the opportunity to strike him down with the telescope Jefferson was using to keep his eyes on his daughter, then she runs to help Mary Margaret once again. However, Jefferson charges Emma with his hat on his head to show that he's fallen back completely into his madness, and it's then that the three of them get into an intense fight, before Mary Margaret suddenly kicks him back and causes him to crash through a window, after which they assume he falls to his death. And yet... Jefferson's body isn't there and is nowhere to be found. Only his hat is left behind. Intriguing for sure! :) As Emma and Mary Margaret are finally leaving after Jefferson's disappearance, I absolutely love the dialogue between them too, as it parallels perfectly to the second episode... The Thing You Love Most, where Mary Margaret talks about their trust and why Emma needed to stay in Storybrooke despite wanting to run away, as well as to the previous episode... Heart of Darkness. I love how Emma calls Mary Margaret her family, like she spoke to Jefferson about her being her mother should the curse actually be real, until she quickly corrects herself and says friends instead upon quickly putting her walls back up. I appreciate that Emma is able to convince Mary Margaret to trust in her again to save her, and to return to her cell before Regina finds her missing like she's expecting to. I also enjoy the brilliant conversation between Regina and Gold in the end. It is confusing, because we have no idea what Gold really appears to want at this point in spite of what we believe he wants. He definitely hates Regina, but so long as she has something to offer him, he will do somethings for her too. Rumple has his reasons for doing everything he does. Oh... and this scene also reveals that it was Gold who gave Regina the idea to plant the key in the cell upon Regina making another deal with him, both with the expectation that Mary Margaret would run. Fantastic! Overall... This episode is still really good despite its flaws, and I love Jefferson. Sebastian Stan brings intrigue to his character and his acting is absolutely brilliant! Thank you again, for another great reaction, Travis! I am so, so happy to see how excited you were about seeing Sebastian Stan appear here in Once Upon a Time!!! Thank you, dear friend! Yeah, seeing a young Sebastien Stan as the Mad Hatter was a nice touch by the showrunners. Next episode is a big one, so prepare yourself, Travis!

I love how you go into a full on novel for every episode even though it's all completely unnecessary to state all the obviousness of everything. Hahaha it's adorable. I didn't see you mention that Emma and Jefferson were together in real life though! They have amazing chemistry. 👏
