I'll be honest, not a huge fan of this episode. The case of the week is rather meh compared to others, and the Quinn storyline is not really my vibe (though important for her character). Considering I like pretty much every other episode this season though, I can handle one meh episode. You were wondering about the First Lady's name, it's Mellie, not Millie. And yeah, she has some great death glares. She was horribly underutilized last season, a mistake I'm glad they remedied this season. ### Plot Points ### ** Case of the Week - Pastor Drake ** * OPA was originally called in by his wife after he went missing the night before an important event. Olivia informs David to have the Justice department help look for him * OPA tracks him to a hotel where they find him dead, on top of a handcuffed woman, Anna. They move his body to his house to have him “die in his sleep” * Originally they assume Anna to be a hooker, but they quickly realize Anna is his mistress of 15 years, whom he had a child with * David orders an autopsy of the Pastor, sensing something is up considering the night prior Olivia told him he was missing. To ensure this doesn’t happen (and OPA doesn’t get arrested for the various crimes committed by moving the body), Olivia tells Fitz the truth and asks him to quash the autopsy, which he does, much to David’s anger * Anna doesn’t sign the agreement, using it as leverage to attend the funeral. The Pastor’s wife eventually agrees to this ** East Sudan Conflict ** * A photo surfaces of massacred children in rows allegedly killed by the East Sudanese government, an image allegedly taken only days ago * Oil Tycoon Hollis Doyle once again encourages the White House to go to war - and it’s revealed that his Super-PAC helped get Fitz elected * While contemplating military action, Cyrus tells Fitz he finds the picture a little too convenient to force Fitz into military action while he was on the fence, and that he doesn’t trust the intel * Fitz goes to the CIA, and talks to a CIA analyst who seemed unsure in the prior briefing - sure enough, he confirms the crops present in the image could not be growing when the photo allegedly was taken, and Fitz “fires” the CIA director as a result ** Huck’s “Trauma” ** * In the episode opening, we see him attending an Alcoholics Anonymous session, though he leaves when asked to speak * When Olivia asks him to move Pastor Drake’s body, he originally assumes she means disposing of the body - as he would have done with his CIA past * At the end of the episode, he returns to the session, and speaks to the group about drinking “whiskey” ** Quinn’s trial aftermath ** * Quinn continues to ask questions as to how Olivia knows about her past identity (We know Olivia & Huck were responsible for the new identity, but as far as we know, no one else does) * Huck discovers Quinn left Olivia’s house (where she was staying) to fly to California to see her father - but her father looks at her like she’s a different person * Quinn then visits the motel where she was taken from, where Huck joins her, and tells her while 7 people may have been killed, it was actually 8, Lindsay Dwyer died in the explosion too * Olivia meets with US Supreme Court Justice Verna Thornton, who asks about Quinn. Despite them both knowing Quinn is innocent, Verna wishes they’d “let her hang”. She then says “that innocent little girl could bring down this government” * David is asked to take a leave of absence as a result of his losing the trial. He is shown to be beginning to investigate OPA, Quinn, Olivia, and how she managed to get Quinn acquitted ** Cyrus & James ** * Cyrus promised James a baby. James quit his (prestigious) journalist position to take care of said baby, but no baby has been adopted yet * At the end of the episode, Cyrus tells James he can’t adopt another baby as he already is taking care of one, the President ### Episode Notes ### * This episode introduces Verna Thornton, a Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. She seems to be involved with whatever is going on with Quinn and the Cytron explosion, though as of now we don't know in what way. ### Overall Timeline ### (The following events are not present in this timeline for ease of reading - they’ll be added in if/when they become relevant and when their timeline ordering is revealed: Abby, Huck, and Harrison’s backstories, Fitz’s election campaign.) * Quinn discovers boyfriend Jesse is cheating on her * Cytron explosion kills Jesse & 6 others, with Quinn as the prime suspect * Quinn wakes up in DC hotel with the Quinn Perkins identity next to her, left by Olivia and Huck * [Time Jump - ~18 months] * Quinn hired at OPA * [Events of Season 1] * Quinn’s arrest * [Time Jump - ~6 months] * Quinn tried for septuple murder by David Rosen, gets acquitted on a technicality after Olivia makes a mysterious phone call * Quinn returns home, accepts “Lindsay Dwyer” is dead, returns back to DC * David begins investigating how Olivia got Quinn acquitted

At the end of the first season Fitz said he was fine being a one term president and was willing to give everything up to be with Olivia. Millie and Cyrus tallied Liv out of it and they came up with a plan to boost his numbers and to make sure he stays in the political game. One of those strategies was him and Millie having another baby which he didn’t want. He wanted to start a life with Olivia.

The phone call at the beginning of this episode was loaded as a clip on scandals YouTube and it ended up on my timeline and that’s how I was hooked to scandal lol! So this episode is so iconic for me!
