I've always felt pretty uncreative when it comes to posing characters. When drawing from imagination, I try to find it on the page and this can often lead me to fiddling and bending one part of the body without really considering how that would affect the whole. This leads to anatomy rather like the last post I made here, wonky and flat.

Using some of the money you guys have been giving me (thank you) I went ahead and bought a tiny little artist poseable figure. I'll probably post the details about it later, because I have a long list of complaints about the actual build quality of this one. BUT, in practice I have to say it's actually made figruing out these drawings a lot easier. I'm not sure it's worth the asking price yet, as these highly flexible figures are expensive.

At the same time, it's a whole heck of a lot mroe fun to figure out how a character is posed when you're playing with a model in your hands. The ability to adjust the pose then see it and even feel it in real time helps give you just enough refrence to put it down on the page. You have to know a thing or two about anatom already, and I wouldn't want people to trace directly from the figure. But this appears to be a good tool to have in your arsenal if you're doing art.
