This week, the Germans are, as always, on the move everywhere. However, nothing quite seems to be going to plan. The German offensive in North Africa has been repelled. The German offensive into the Caucasus is stalling and Wilhelm List is fired by Hitler as a result. In Stalingrad, the Soviet counterattack is fierce and significantly ties up German troops, though not ultimately halting the Nazi advance.

It seems that Case Blue, the German 1942 summer offensive, is all but over now.

159 - Hitler Finally Fed Up with his Army - WW2 - September 11, 1942

Adolf Hitler sacks Wilhelm List, Army Group Commander in the Caucasus. His replacement does not have military command experience. The fighting there is still successful this week, though, as is the advance through the suburbs of Stalingrad. The Japanese are advancing along the Kokoda Trail and on Guadalcanal, but the Axis attacks in North Africa have failed badly.
