Here's my next comic + screenshots to show a bit of my process! First, I upload the sketches and get the layout, then I trace the images, add flat colours, and then any extra shading/details/text.

A lot of my comic is tweaked as I go (I can be quite picky). It took me forever to decide on a shirt colour for Liz, and the length of the back leg and tail in those first two panels needed some work. Much of the shading/details are done freehand with the mouse. I sometimes grab elements from previous art to paste into a comic if I need to (Liz's head in the 2nd frame) just to save time if they're not huge comic elements.

Hope you enjoy!

This is so cool! I hope you do more posts like this in the future 😊

Seeing the details/process is rad. Jade is shook from that cuddle attack!

If I did that to my kitties, I'd be as perforated as the bedsheet 😁

What software do you use?

Birdman

This is cool to see thanks for sharing

DrPop

I fucking love behind the scenes stuff. I'm so fascinated by the process.

When are we going to see the TMNT posts and cosplay? Lol.

Thank you for sharing! It's always interesting to see how things come together. Do you have a list of ideas that you plan to make into comics or do you try to follow a schedule like "storyboard/layout/sketch/color"? I do not have a creative bone in my body and I envy those that can come up with this kind of thing, but I'm so glad that people like you exist.

pizzacakecomic

Aw thank you! I do have a list that I try to keep up with regularly, but I also will make one that pops into my head if I really like the idea!

I'm curious how many hours are required to take something from a rough sketch/idea to finished comic? Do you have time dedicated just to have time inside your own head for creative thinking? I find the whole process fascinating.

pizzacakecomic

So this one was fairly simple and probably took about 3-4 hours altogether. Some more complex ones might take 5-6 hours if I'm being a perfectionist lol

blooper reel

Was there much of a learning curve for you to learn how to use it, or did you pick it up pretty quickly?

pizzacakecomic

Oh lord yes lol I hated learning it in college and I remember saying I'd never touch it again once I finished the course hahaha but now I couldn't imagine not using it

DrHorrible

I like the behind the scenes and how the creation process works. Would love to see more and maybe even a time lapse!

I have done something similar when the cat is asleep and curled in a ball. I start playing with his toes as revenge for waking me up at 5 am crying for food.

I'm impressed you do this in Illustrator instead of using Photoshop.

Look to my left, see white ball of fluff and anger, must grab regardless of consequences. Yup sounds like normal behavior to me.
